Friend of ours has a NH baler that's really similar to the one I bought. They were baling today and told me to come see how it works. Now I'm really excited to get mine going! Late ,last cutting of hay ,poor yield , but he said it's better than alot of folks have, been so dry last couple months........he will be glad he has it this winter. Did find a couple issues on mine, spring is broken. Just in front of tire on chute side. If I knew what it was called I could order one!

One needle is broke. Not sure if that's a big deal?

And finally there is a sprocket behind chute side tire with no chain on it. Couldn't see where one should go. Any ideas?

Cannot remember what model baler you have, but that looks like the spring for the plunger safety stop. That stops the plunger and causes the flywheel pin to shear. That is a feeder tine that has the end broken. Baler will work like it is, but they are not very expensive and easy to replace. I put one on a NH 311 last month.

Did you say a while back that you would like to have a set of cultivators for a Allis Chalmers B. I have a set on a B and do not need them. Really don't need the tractor either. I am probably too far from you to make it worth while, but the price would be right! I am near Winston Salem,NC gfoster@yadtel net Add a dot after yadtel.

I always enjoy your posts.

Should have added that the plunger safety stop causes the pin to shear and protects the twine needles if plunger and knotter are not in time. I have to say that I an not sure about the sprocket. What is baler model?

New Holland 315 baler. Will email
you tomorrow about the
cultivators. You ain't too far
away! My B is a '39. No
hydraulics. Will the cultivators
work on it?

You really want the plunger stop working. If you need it and it?s not it gets really expensive.....

The broken feeder fork means it won?t feed quite evenly. It will bale better if it?s right, less banana bales, etc. it looks odd to have the spacing you have to the metal rod fingers, but my baler is older so I donno.

Totally guessing on the sprocket, did previous owner have a bale kicker or a preservative applicator on the baler, works with an applicator maybe?

If that spring is the one spring that need to be there or it can/will cause a baler to become scrap iron due to it being the spring that pulls in the safety stop for the plunger. That needle as you call it is the hay feed needle and while it is nice to have will not cause much problems I have run my NH271 for a long time with one broken and replaced it just a few weeks ago on mine. As for the sprocket on the chute side it is the drive for the pick up teeth if I am seeing it right and I just fixed that on my NH271 due the master link breaking

They had hand lift and hyd lift cultivators for them so if you can find hand lift and the lifts then you can have working ones or you can add hyds

Kevin, if you decide to go to Garry's, we are right on the way to his place.
Wife and I drove up there and bought an Allis combine from him. Very nice fellow to deal with.

Like others have said you really need to get that plunger stop working like its supposed to work, and also get an original hard copy of the parts and operators manuals.

After NC you can head up to VA I have 5 or 6 sets of B cultivators over in the field plus a few B tractors for parts. Also have a side dresser set up I bought at an auction never used it.Then there are plows, mowers etc.Oh and probably the rarest and neatest piece is a disc plow for a B.

ArleninOR, what's a good time to call you on Wednesday? Been working at my folks house and haven't had good cell service

Sprocket behind the bale chute side tire may be for driving the pump used with the hydraulic bale tension option. There are some images of 315's on the web that show that option on a baler and it looks like that would be its function.

As Traditional Farmer posted: "get an original hard copy of the parts and operators manuals". You can see and print off info from the on line parts catalog at the New Holland parts catalog site, but a hard copy of the Operator's Manual will help a lot until you get familiar with your baler.
