I posted last week about a lot of repairs needed on my hay equipment. The main repair on the baler made the knots nicer, but it was still making babies, little single flake bales attached to maybe every tenth bale. So after raking on Thursday I went to the baler to study it, to see exactly what was it that caused the tying process to stop and to keep the needles from cycling again. I got it figured out and then saw that an arm that is part of the metering wheel linkage which stops the needle drive arm had a crack in it. I brought the baler home to my shop and removed that part of the metering linkage, and then I saw that where the needle drive wheel turned against the cracked part that it was worn down a good 1/16th inch. I welded the crack and filled the worn area, put it back together, and voila! The birth control was effective. I baled 100 bales yesterday and made no babies.
