Didn?t know they were still doing that. Think I got one years ago, it?s around somewhere.

Wow it?s hard to believe they would send you a new anything for tractors that have been out of production for 65 years! I?ll have to go up to the shop and write down serial numbers. I know the one on my M is pretty well shot. Thanks for the info.

Those vented caps saved some people getting hurt. Local fellow got burnt over 80% of his body with one of the original caps. I have been told his suet against IH was one of the ones that caused the replacement policy.

Thanks Kevin. Had not heard about this before. Haven't had any problems with my 460, but might as well aire on the side of caution.

The lawyer that won millions in that lawsuit was a guy that I went to school with in So. Il.

Beleave it......those tanks when hot and full of gas can hold some awsum pressure. Know a neighbor who got only a little burn but the tractor didn't do very well.

Same cap fit late 47 to 52 A,B,G john deere but rarely have we heard of gas fire from caps on jd tractors

Never saw the big deal. The new caps are hard to turn putting on and off. I don't like them and the old one was much easier to get on and off. Yup it would let a wee bit of gas dampen the cap when full running across rough or frozen ground.

I have a good friend who was burned severely by a flash fire while refueling a Farmall.

He wears a mustache to lessen the impact of the scars on his face, now.

I have 3 H's and an M. I'll have to try this.

I remember one time pouring cold gas into the tank of grandpa's super H and going back to baling hay. I hit a bump and that thing erupted like mt vesuvious.

I read the information in the link you posted.

Had to shake my head when I read that;

"Gas caps CANNOT be shipped to P.O. Boxes."

Here anyways most every farmer has a PO box for a mailing address.

The next line says;

Due to low volume of cap requests, and high inventory, the FREE GAS CAP offer will be extended indefinitely.

Coincidence?

Dod got one for the 41 H Farmall and had to turn in the old one. New was not as good as the one we had to turn in. Never understood the reason. The old cap did not leak at any time.

Some of ours already have the tall cap, mostly all of the ones from our 460D and newer already have them. I can't remember, but I don't think the offer applies to our gas start diesels. I sent in the serial numbers for our older gas ones that didn't already have the tall cap. I'm guessing once they receive the serial number they keep track of it now, and maybe they did before. If they did keep track of it back in the day, must be none of ours had been sent through yet, they sent all 15 caps for the serial numbers I sent them.
