Post Storm Drone Pic

Took the drone up for a quick view of the fields surrounding my yard. My oat field in the upper right of the photo appears unscathed at this distance but most of the oats are on the ground. What stands out to me is the water accumulated in every low spot on the summerfallow field . That was all dry ground before the rain. Hard to believe we were praying for rain this spring.

Yesterday a guy I know texted me and said they just got his semi out with a load of chopped corn. Took 5 tractors to pull him out of the wet hole.

I can believe that. I dont think they run semis in the field much here but have grain carts instead. I'll have hard enough time running the old single axle IH with half a load over that field. Of course there won't be much to haul now.

It is a shame to get so close to harvest and have hail knock it on the ground. Do you have crop insurance??? Will it help much??? Here in the US, unless you have paid the big money for the income protection policy, the regular coverage rarely pays off unless it is a total loss.

I have some regular govt crop insurance on the canola plus additional municipal hail ins. on the rest of the crops so there is some protection. Although it won't replace the crop by any means. I guess I'm going to find out just how good it is.

I recall you had been so wet you were losing ground over the years, and were dry this year kinda getting back to normal. Whatever that is.

That can sure change in a hurry!
