X2. Growing up on a dairy farm taught me what I didn't want to do with the rest of my life. I was the first in my family to go to college.

I lost a finger in a chopper like that. It was put back on, but is kinda bent and crooked now. Those old Allis built machines had ALOT of gathering chains. I learned this the hard way when I was 17. We had one like that, and a 780 Allis 2 row. Neither one was for a hoot in weedy fields.Cut and throw choppers did a poor job over all. Al

The father of the girl I dated in high school had an old Allis chopper that was pretty worn out, so he's put it on the DB 1200 with the two speed PTO and run it at 1,000 RPM. Then it would throw it to the back of the wagon..

Allis tractors and equipment made for some nice field scenes. My grandfather had a new 780 Allis chopper and I picked up one a few years ago that is nice. We cut a few loads each year with it. We are filling silo today. Just posted this while waiting on lunch. I am running a 4020 on a Deere 35 chopper with a one row head. Had my old Deere 12 2 row machine out yesterday. Wife snapped some pics so maybe I can get some posted. Tom

Allis came out with this chopper in late 40's, I think this was the first cylinder cut chopper. All others at the time had the old style flywheel style cut like
used on old silo fillers. Allis was ahead of its time with this machine.
