hi all this is my first post....i have a case 830/832...????...comfort king..(uncomfort king)...which has no power steering...does anyone have any info on fitting a universal power steer unit to this beast...????...and what kit would suit...any info is most appreciated...thank you.

no not the situation with mine...armstrong steering...i need a two ram to fit but a complete universal kit would do...........it was made in usa and there is plenty out there....cheers

I have seen a couple early
7/830s without power steering.
There are several options for
aftermarket units. The
cheapest route might be to
find a donor tractor somewhere
and get a whole case unit.
There are some that have been
using car electric units with
excellent results. Google
would be your friend there.
For after market tractor units
charlyn seems to be the most
popular, but they get spendy.

is it a row crop or wheatland/standard?

Row crop it is "very easy". just get a front steering gear unit. you'll have to pull the front tin and radiator off and prop the tractor up. remove the steering shaft universal at the gearbox and remove. if narrow front you'll have to jack the front end up and remove the wheels and the pedastal. then remove the old gear box. then put in your new one reassemble. you'll also need a PS pump unit and bracket. attach to the front and hook up the belt and hoses. I'd only recommend a steering gear box from a wide front (they are all the same) as the wide front doesn't put weight on the gear box themselves. I'd also only recommend a later model PS pump. the pumps are the same as the older x00 series but the fittings are easier to find. the Cases are VERY heavy tractors. surprised anyone that ever test drove one without PS would have bought it.

good luck.

again tractor data is far from accurate, later GP models came std with power steering std/western models and all eagle hitch units it was a option, just like hyd, pto, Case-O-Matic and rear hitch always was on all models,,
cnt

I have exhausted ebay and hunted local local wreckers etc...seems case of that era are very rare here...even engineering companys dont have a clue...ebay lists aftermarket kits for all but case 830....a met a fellow farmer who has the same...he thought he had the only one that came with no power steering...oh no...he has fitted a chamberlain directional ram to his and runs the hydro hoses off the hydro remotes at the rear...problem is the chamberlain ram is a west australian made vickers s22...rarer than elvis seen at maccas...thats also the problem with sourcing new over the counter...it seems you cant get a directional ram...i have found one on youtube...made in india but cant find how to buy it..no english just bollywood sound track...this 830..handbook says 830c ???....does not have linkages as such...just a huge steering box and a 6 foot drag link to the steering link..if that helps...cheers

I don't know that tractor but if a wide front there should be a tie rod between the front wheels. If so it should be easy to put hydrostatic steering on that tractor. Using steering parts from a Ford blue combine we put hydrostatic steering on our 1950 John Deere AR tractor and after that one fingre steering. Hardest part should be finding a place to get rid of orignal steering wheel and put the control from the combine where you can reach the steering wheel. I am assuming you have a hydrolic power unit avaible to power it, if not just find a place to mount a self contained power steering pump off a car as we had to do on that Deere.
