Redneck engineering back to drawing board.

All was working well. Weeds were too tall.

So I had to drop mower on tall weeds.

Design problem, I didn't account for mower coming with a stump.
I either bent crank or sheared off flywheel key. Good thing the mower was given to me. All redneck projects must use materials you already have.

Interesting to say the least George. I don't imagine you'd get SAE approval .... ha! When I see rigs like that one, I always think of something my uncle told me years ago, he was in the insurance business. He said that once you see any situation at all (no matter how normal or safe it might appear), think of something negative or crazy off the charts that might happen and then realize that it could/can/has in fact happen(ed). Once you realize that, probably a good idea to take out some liability insurance, and maybe even life insurance. Not sayin' ....

Redneck rule number one .
You can only use items you have or items given to you. Can't buy anything.

That looks more like a job for a string trimmer with a 3 blade plastic knife head.

I took down some worse than that with that setup.

Once it's down and cleaned up, then the mower on a stick might work.

Check the flywheel key first. Briggs engines have a very soft aluminum key that shears really easy and the engine will not start if it is even partly sheared.

> you need something with a sickle like the jarrie's had to cut that stuff.

I don't think a sickle mower will fare any better against a stump or rock than George's dumpster-dive mower did.

Mark,
There isn't a remote possibility I'll buy a cyclebar mower. I friend was given a 3 ft cyclebar mower. I got it running for him. It's worthless on some grasses. Not to mention it will shake your teeth out.,

I want to mow on hill sides. The place where I was experimenting is a steep down hill. Can't see how a cyclebar will work there.

I do know a guy who had both hands cut off by a push lawn mower. He was mowing his lawn or side ditch with a riding mower that had at least one, but I believe 2 push lawn mowers rigged to his riding mower to obtain a larger swathe. I don't know the circumstances of what happened but something went wrong and he had both hands cut off. They were able to reattach them both. Last time I saw him, one hand had limited mobility and the other had almost no mobility. This happened shortly before his daughter's wedding and he was still in the hospital on her wedding day.

Just wait, more redneck engineering to follow.

I don't think there are any redneck engineers on YT. What a shame.

Looks like you need a bobcat on tracks and a rotary mower on the front. Might extend your life .

But wait even more redneck engineering, make a sling n hang a dozen goats out there, let em eat.
As for the RED GREEN engineering if duck tape dont work use bigger hammer. If its not broke your not trying hard enough

Redneck engineering? Is that a contest to see who's dumber than you?

There is this thing called risk assessment. That means you look at what you want to do like mowing a steep embankment. 1st you determine if it really has to be done. If you decide it has to be dune you determine the SAFEST way to accomplish the task. Not necessarily the easiest. They one that is least likely to get someone hurt. I know a lot of rednecks. Most have a good deal of wisdom. The ones that insist on doing dumb stuff to impress the other idiots around them I stay away from. The real rednecks would be out there with a swing blade or weed wacker getting the job done. Not sitting there trying to figure out how to do it from a tractor seat.

Not impressed at all.

Rick

A lazy redneck would have used round up... A high tech redneck would have used round up with some Flumioxazin in the mix...

You can open up the right side of the mower with a torch or sawzall, they eat the brush better. :)

(quoted from post at 19:06:44 09/16/19) There's Redneck engineering, and then there's Darwin engineering...

When you are dangling a mower on ropes or chains that's pretty Darwin. Or the guy mowing the hedge where that mower can throw stuff at the operator at high velocity? That's way past Darwin, that's just downright dumb.

Want to do something like that rig up some type of affair that tows the mower.

With my 860 and JD #9 mower, I'd been done about a week ago.

I know what a 'Cycle Bar is and who goes there, don't know what a cyclebar mower is.
