Posthole digger attachment

I know I'm not the only one who has gotten a auger stuck while trying to drill postholes because my tractor doesn't have reverse to get the auger out once it's stuck. I have come with something to prevent the auger ever getting stuck again. Does anyone know if there is an attachment that you can put on your drilling attachment to keep it from getting stuck? I can't find anything anywhere. I can garantee you'll never get stuck again. Please let me know if you know of anything. Thank you..

While attempting to dig holes with a pto driven digger operate engine well below pto speed raising auger every 6 inches of digging depth & auger will more than likely never corkscrew into soil so no pto reverse will ever be needed

TX Jim has the correct answer. If you let the engine idle and only go down six inches at a time then lift it out, you'll immediately know if you've screwed it under a root and it won't be quite the rassling match barring it back out of the hole.

We've all been there. . .

I learned the hard way the first time I used one and it screwed itself all the way down. That was over 40 years ago. I do it the
same way TX Jim does and haven't had a problem since. Slow, down a little at a time, and keep lifting it out to keep the hole
cleaned out.

with what I have come up with you'll never have to stop your tractor again because the auger will never get stuck or bog down again. You'll spend more time drilling than stopping and trying to get your auger unstuck.

That's how I do it now. My first time, not so much. As a side note, you can get a floor jack under the lift arms and use it as an assist. Go ahead, ask me how I know. ;)

As happened to Double R my dad too learned the hard way over 40 years ago. We tried every easy way to get it out, none worked. So my brother and I were given the task of using a pipe wrench to back it out. Long slow process.
20 years ago I bought an attachment to solve all the problems with 3pt mounted augers. It is a Bobcat skid steer with a reversible hydro motor to spin the auger.

PROS
Work is in front of you
Minor adjustments can easily be made so holes are straight
You will have down pressure for hard soils
If you hit a rock, tree root, mud or any other obstacle, just reverse the auger
End result straight clean holes

CONS
Cost

IMHO I would rent a skid steer before I?d ever use a rear mount 3pt again.

with what I have come up with. You can still do the up and down method, but with this you can go as fast as you want without having to worry about your auger getting stuck when it catches. I live in Texas and the top foot is pretty much dry but once you get deeper the wet soil is like glue and won't let you do the up and down method. Even after you stop the auger from going any deeper turning off your P. T. O. it's almost impossible to get the auger out. I have bent augers at 120.00 each because they wouldn't come out. Now I can go as fast as I want to and as deep as I want to and not have to worry about getting my auger stuck. Saves me alot of time and money.

what if you didn't have to go up and down drilling a little at a time? Just set the auger down and let it drill without doing the up and down thing. And never worry about it ever getting stuck again?

I have a LOWE hydraulic auger. It can attach to a front loader bucket, to a trackhoe
boom, or to an existing 3 auger boom. All is needed to switch is proper mtg. adapters.
and decent hydraulics.---------Loren

It would interesting to know how one can "bend an auger" while reversing it's direction in a hole in the ground!! I'm glad you have a solution to your hole digging problem.

PS: I'll bet I've lived in Texas longer than you have & probably have more difficult soil to deal with than you do.

My neighbor had an auger stuck....he jacket a rear tire off the ground, placed the PTO in Ground speed, placed the Transmission in reverse ....auger turned itself out.....:)

Possibly work for you and then again maybe not..........

You are basically a spammer trying to get someone to bite on sending you something for your "idea." Try the patent office then the open market and if your idea is good you will make money.

no I'm not. I have 10 acers of land in Pleasanton Texas. I own a John Deere 3032E tractor. I just got tired of bending my augers and wasting my time trying to unstick my auger. So I came up with an idea and it worked. Just a normal country boy trying to save money. And maybe make a little if I can sell my idea.

My tractor is only 13hp and too small for an auger. It takes two people to operate but I made a wooden frame which kind of looks like stairs to prevent the auger from going too deep too fast. I let the auger down only about 10" at a time and once it frees the hole of the dirt take it down another 10".

Best solution is to sell the turkey and use one of these .https://www.landpride.com/ari/attach/lp/public/manuals/317-076m.pdf. For the minimal difference in price . The peace of mind , increased productivity and improved safety makes it no contest .
Several companies manufacture a similar unit .http://www.danuser.com/attachments/auger-systems/hydraulic/ep-heavy-duty-series/model-ep6r

OK....What am i missing here? All I see is a tractor hooked to a PTO driven auger with some boards and pipe in the background. Seems everyone knows what you are talking about. How about a picture of the device so we can copy it!
Just being ornery (We have 2 hydraulic driven augers and no desire to go back) but would like to understand what you have....

I have a JD 4200 compact tractor similar size to yours. All you have to do to prevent it screwing into the ground is adjust the rate of drop on the 3pt hitch. Mine is a knob in front of the
seat. You can lock it up drop it fast or just a little at a time and it wont pull the 3pt into the ground. Been there don that a few times we have clay and rocks that you can't pull out with
100hp tractor.

think it is a dead NASCAR driver playing childish games!

already in the process of sending in a Provisional Patent application, that will give me 12 months to get things rolling. Thanks
