Tried Some Baling

On the weekend. I guess one day of drying after I turned the swaths was not enough. We don't get enough heat and wind lately to dry fast. This
rolled up easy but checking it by hand I could feel the moisture in the first bale so decided not to risk wrapping up a bunch of hay that was
going to heat and possibly spoil. Had another inch of rain on it in the last 24 hours. :-(

Rusty, I put a moisture meter in my square baler. Do they make them for a round baler? I still go by feel. Hopefully baling second cut that got wet on Thursday.

(quoted from post at 21:01:05 09/10/19) Enjoyed it while it lasted. How many round bales do you put up each year ? Hope you find baling weather again.
With my few cattle I can usually get by on 60 to 80 bales a winter. I've got a few leftover from last year. Good thing too as the hay crop was short and thin this year

I don't know much about the moisture testers for hay. Most years its not a problem. Sometimes too dry.

Darn shame you didn?t have someone nearby that could have come and wrapped that hay in plastic, would have fermented and made real nice feed. We got fed up trying to make dry hay many years ago and bought a very simple turntable style wrapper on a auction sale for $1,000.00. It was slow but we would wrap 500-800 bales each year

Bruce, it is apparent by the dress code that you run a very class operation there.

A coworker was telling me about watching some nearby Amish baling small squares and wrapping them in white plastic, I'm assuming wet haylage bales.

Theres a few guys here using the plastic wrap on bales. Like big white sausages laying in the fields. For my hobby cattle operation I couldn't justify the cost. Unless wet haying seasons are going to be the norm from now on. Actually wet hay is the least of my worries now with this endless rain on all my cash crops still in the field.
