We drove/camped across Canada summer of "74" and saw many of those buildings.

Still some scenes like that last year on our tour across the West.

Front tractor is an E27N Fordson....

Large stationery engines. You can probably You
Tube a video of a grain elevator in the prairie, and
see the elevator operator start the old unit. My
cousin was a elevator operator in a town called
Inchkeith, Saskatchewan. His elevator had a self
contained power plant. Big Diesel with a line shaft to
drive the bucket elevator, and it also had a
generator to provide electric power.

Alot of the grain elevators in Canada were powerd by Ruston single cylinder horizontal diesel engines made just up the road from me at Lincoln. The tractor on the left of the picture is a UK built Fordson E27N and they were built at Dagenham from 1945 to 1951. A lot went to Canada fitted with the Perkins P6 diesel engine and a pressurised radiator. MJ
