Hottest tractor

For "World's Hottest Tractor" I nominate this John Deere 3010 utility. It's really hot sitting right behind that engine and mid mounted radiator. That big old muffler just a few feet away doesn't help either. Everything is hot. The controls, steering wheel, fenders, key, even the seat is hot. I don't know if the Deere row crops are as bad. I know I would much rather run my farmall 560 or MF 50 in the heat of summer. It was dang hot baling today. Mostly switching from 2nd to 3rd gear, never going fast enough to catch a breeze. What tractors do you think are hotter than average?

I think JD wins that contest hands down. Closed center system under pressure makes heat all the time and controls under the seat, plus other things that you mentioned.--Loren

Closed center hydraulics would make less heat since oil only moves when it needs to, it's under pressure but not moving till flow is needed

I can recall our '64 Ford 4000 with a Select-O-Speed transmission and even my old 850 Ford being pretty darned hot when mowing thick vegetation, grass and weeds with a rotary cutter in the warm summer weather. Weather plays a role, if cooler drier air is prevalent, not nearly as hot.

One I can think of that was also quite hot, was a D8K Caterpillar with the fan blades reversed for winter operation, sending all that heat from the huge radiator these have, to the operator platform. Not so much in the winter, but when spring comes and the mechanic is late to spin those fan blades back ! I thought I was working in an oven, even though it had an OROPS.

It?s got to be bad if you would rather have a 560 never been on a utility does it have a flat floor or Is it like 560 with a hump between your legs I know the shifter isn?t are the brakes and clutch pedal as clumsy on the 3010 as a 560? as far as hydraulics being hot there is no oil pumped until you move a valve unlike ford and ih or case that circulate all the time the tractors is running of course at a whopping 8 gallon per minute there probably isn?t much heat being generated

I need to switch the fan on the 4020 I have it reversed for winter operation it makes quite a difference in heat on the operator which is nice in November

Put a steel cab on it then you will know what hot is. That little 4 cylinder doesn?t put ou the heat a 5020 does or IH 1256 under max load plowing. Plus I?ve found tractors that you straddle the transmisson to always be warmer to operate then one were you sit on top on a platform. Unless I?m mistaken 3010 utility?s are kind of on the rare or uncommon side. Advertise it right and could sell it and buy 2 or 3 of the 560s.

There's a small hump, maybe 8 inches. Not a full hump like a Ford or Massey. Yes, in the summer I'd rather run the 560, I'll go another step farther and say I'd rather run a WD. It is a really, really hot tractor. Or, maybe it's just September in Arkansas and I'm tired of being hot.

Ran a shhhh 2n ford no platform for feet just pegs to set feet on.underneath exhaust pipe muffler under 1 foot.that weaned me at early age of 10 of a ford tractor and under neath exhaust. Older guy next door next farm west of us took down bad sick.i was asked to disc his ground up. Its was a rough ride too.was happy to get back on our 47 B john deere

My nomination for hottest is a 630 Deere running wide open in fourth gear on a hot summer day with the temp gauge running 210 while laying by corn.

Well, I guess then that the tractor is not moving, no steering needed , PTO not turning, hydraulics not being used, no need for brakes. I think there is more oil moving than you suggest, and I know for a fact how hot those tractors get under the seat area..----------Loren

Does a 3010 have a reversible fan? That might make a world of difference. It doesn't look easy to do, not much space between the radiator and fan.

If it has the center hump to straddle I don?t envy you . I?ve already got one stick between my legs that?s enough don?t need a gear shift . If I can sit like this for 14 hours a day

Why on earth would I want to sit and not be able stretch out

Only like 200 degrees bro,, heck the year old 4020 we traded for at the dealership was not selling so that winter we mounted a New Waldon dozer on it and plowed snow with it, no heater it the cab but I had to open a window even when it was below zero to breath, hot is a mild word for those seat heaters

Spend a day packing a silage bunker with an IH 656 utility hydro with an IH 2000 loader. That is as hot as I have ever seen a tractor driver. The next spring it was traded on a newer ford. Tom

Having driven a few case 9/1030s with a cab I can say they get warm when working too. That engine manifold comes nearly inside the cab and really gets hot. They don't have the additional heat from the hydraulic and such tho. But they are about the worst in the case lineup. I had an IH 1256 with a cab that would warm up nicely too.

Any utility tractor doing heavy work. MF 165 pulling a 4-14 semi mount plow. Motor in front, your bottom sitting on the rear end, and both legs hugging the transmission.

Dad said the same thing about the 630 cultivating, I think he put his feet on the light brackets, said you could fry an egg on the platform. He did have an umbrella also. He liked the 4020 a lot better, but it was a diesel.

2020 john deer with muffler under the floor board would melt your tennis shoe. Had to bush hog 50 acre. 7 foot bush hog. Cow paster. Never figure out why when i left home dad retire he got a 4230 cab 16 foot bushog. Now the international 674 gas gets hot 3 14 bottom plow all day.

I am NOT kidding I also ran it some plowing in the spring,, 30 degree day every window and door open and in a tee shirt and sweating,, but at least I had to get out twice to fuel it a day,, and I hated wearing eye plugs but my ears would ring for a day if I did not,, I still know guys here who run them and thats all well and good I have always said run what every brand makes you happy,,, but when you were used to a Nice Quite and COOL Case cab on a 1070 with a/c and the radio on that seat heated JD was not very impressive to me,, Personal opinion here,, you need to understand I ran every brand that was made then when we did demo's and would swap tractors for a few hours to let the potential new customer get settled in the demo unit we brought,, JD,IH,FORD, MF, Oliver, we took them all in trade,,

Bro has a hard time keeping the hoop on his ear muffs from flopping down over his eyes. Good thing he has a nose or he wouldn't be able to talk. HeHe Just pushing your chain Bro.------------Loren

The early Fordsons with the worm drive rear end were known to get so hot one could fry an egg on the housing. More than one operator has said they have never driven something that was so cold in the winter and yet so hot in the summer.

Ben

I think some old Fords used a pusher fan to push air forward.

Before I made a heat shield between gas tank and engine on my Jubilee, the gasoline would vapor lock inside inline fuel filter a really hot day.
