I still have my old Bale-O-Matic sitting here. I haven't done anything to it again this year. It is at a minimum good for parts, and could be restored I am sure. I haven't tried starting it now for probably 5 or 6 years. Has the V4 Wisconsin on it. Hate to scrap it, and hate to see it sitting out here. I am in Northern Lower Michigan, and would give it to anyone wanting to use it. I could scrap it myself, but don't want to do that.

I have watched one of those in action. They are quite the concept. Don't scrap it. Someone will restore it and it could be quite an attraction at tractor shows.

Here?s a pic lifted off Internet google.

I don?t know, supposedly made from 1945 to 1953
and over 13,000 produced. I find the subject
interesting because the ranch I was raised on had
one in the junk pile and I found it interesting as a
kid. Belts and levers all over it and huge compared
to modern balers. I read that they were prone to cut
off small pieces of wire that ended up in cattle and
caused problems. I had never heard that before.
My dad used it in 1946 and 1947 so I assume it was
bought new. His only comment was it baled good
but high maintenance.

I don't think that is canvas feed. It feeds with those walkers similar to straw walkers in a combine and like the old hay loaders. The bottom of that area is just flat metal.

Ron I am 76 years old and I was scratching my head, I sure could not remember any canvas, just those poking fingers, about like a man and a pitch fork throwing the hay up. One of those cases where the heavier the hay was the better it worked. Light windrows or jap haw would just sit there. Pulled one several days, if you shut it off at noon forget the afternoon. Once hot those engines were hard to start. Thing was also very heavy on the drawbar.

jm,

I've never heard of jap haw. What is that. I was at an auction in MN about 5 or 6 years ago where a baler just like this sold but I don't remember the selling price.

"Every one" says the Wisconsin engine wouldn't start when hot. Wonder if the company ever did any thing to try to correct that? They sure must have heard the complaints!

Ron

No problem starting if they were taken care of. But they were abused by not being maintained by taking care to clean out under the air housing and the fins on head and block and flywheel. They need that just the same as the radiator in your tractor needs all chalf cleaned off so air can get thru. When hard to start just like trying to start your tractor if radiator is boiling over, too hot and willl not start. Cpmpany cannot do anything about owner too lazy to remove housing to clean dirt out then complains because of running problems. On a baler you need to pull that housing every morning before starting to bale.
