rewiring my ford 961. installed new starting switch. got it fired up but not sure on my electric gas guage. there is one wire than runs to the guage, other post I tried to hook up a positive terminal but sparks flew. any ideas out there. thanks

My elec diagram shows one wire from the gauge to the red/green post on the ign switch and the other wire from the gauge to the sending unit in the tank.

If the OEM 6V fuel gage has not been changed to a 12V unit, it will not work properly on 12V regardless of how it is wired. Note both gauge and sending unit must be changed.

OEM 6V wiring is switched and fused 6V- to one side of the gauge and sending unit to the other side. The sending unit is grounded to the tank, which is a cause of failure on these old tractors.

I have a wire going to the guage from the snding unit. I tried hooking a wire from the switch to the guage but I get a lot of arching. I think maybe it is a 6 volt unit. thanks
