Stupid question of the day

Is it possible for the mag on a farmall A to be out of time and have great spark out of center coil wire but none out of plug wires? Could it be firing between metal contacts in cap? When I take coil wire out of cap it will jump a blue/ white spark nearly an inch to the block.

"great spark out of center coil wire but none out of plug wires? Could it be firing between metal contacts in cap?"

That is EXACTLY what happens when the little gears driving the rotor are not timed correctly.

Have you checked the timing of the rotor drive gears as someone else told you in your other thread on this subject?

I posted a link to the factory service manual for you, as well.

That's what we plan to fix tomorrow. Wish I could fool with it today, gotta work. Hopefully it's that easy to fix. The whole question about no spark on the plug wires bugged me all night. Thanks for clearing it up!

I guess what threw me off is that when cranking with the starter ,the spark from coil wire is almost continuous..... making me wonder why the spark plugs weren't firing.......see..... stupid question! Lol. Thanks for clearing that up for me!
