Back up camera to watch implement

I was going to mount a back up camera on my tractor to watch a towed implement. Was forewarned that the
image might wash out..... like trying to use a cell phone in the sun. It would work great on a cabed
tractor, but mine are all open station.

So, has anybody tried it?????

Yes I did. About 4 years ago now. It has worked great for me. Planning to get one for the 931 before fall plowing starts. I can't say about the wash-out issue, as my tractors have cabs. Perhaps you could build a sheet metal cover over the monitor to shade it.-------Loren

Try getting one that has a shield for the monitor or building a shield or shielded box to put it in. That might work. The one I have in my plow truck has a small shield on it and it sits right up on the dash and it works pretty good.

It may take some trial and error, but, find or make a box to put it in, some of the plastic electrical boxes come to mind, with one of them you could put the cover on when not in use and it would be protected from the weather....

We put one on my neighbors Ford after he had to have his neck fused, was some issues with sun, his son used some of that plastic cardboard that the political signs are made of to make him a shade, forks great now

have them in my combines, also camara on end of unload auger so I can see doors on hopper bottom are shut before I unload, grankids drive the semi's and don't shut the doors sometimes

I am planning to add one to my front end loader. When I have the pallet forks attached I cannot see the pallet or the forks up front. The first problem is that it is a reversed image looking forward--- I figured if I had a small mirror for the camera to look at at right angles it would turn the image around. But even being reversed is better than not being able to see any thing with out repeatedly getting on and off. As for the problem of the sun washing out the image I was thinking of one of those head sets they use for virtual reality-- they make them that you can put your Iphone in them and have it 2 inches from your face and still see the image.

Just make a sun screen for it like the bill on ball caps. I have made several to shield the screen on digital scales. I cut the side out of a 2 1/2 gallon plastic jug. They are about the same width as my scale heads. You would just need to look around for a jug that would be about the same width. Also you can just use a heat gun to bend the corners in wider plastic. To hold the sun screen on the scale I just use a long stainless steel hose clamp.

I like the idea of using a plastic electric box. You could find a water proof one and have a lid to shut when not in use. I have them that have flip latches on them.

Another idea would be find an old fender mounted radio that had the front cover/lid. That would act as a sun screen and then a cover. Just need to remove the radio from the box.

Do a google search for "Cab-Cam" it is MUCH more than just a back up camera. Designed for exactly what you are wanting.

WE have them on our tandem work trucks, our cameras are pointed up. They would work better in the sun if they were pointed down like from the top of the cab, instead of mounted above the pto.

I tried all these things on our GPS for spraying. Found a black 5 gallon pail with the bottom cut off about 3-5 inches. R,ight over the screen was about the best for visibility while out in the sun on an open station tractor. I tried a shadow box type set up. And putting it in so you can see it lets the sun in to much. With the pail right over it as low as you can get it and still read the screen worked best. Lighter colored pails let in to much light also. Reason for the black one.
