Removing the old bed. It was heavy and awkward. Fine for dirt or stone, but very unhandy for other uses.

The new bed. Much lighter, but 10 feet long.

The new hoist. Found it on clearance at Bailey Hydraulics in Knoxville. 90 inch stroke, 3.5 inch diameter on largest part of rod. 7 ton lifting capacity. Price was about 350 with shipping.

I had to design and build a mount for the hoist. Some pics of the process.

Looks nice! I have an 86 F350 with a standard 12' flat bed/hoist. It's been put to a lot of uses - from sawdust, to firewood, to auction goodies! I need to do the same thing to it....although....I am HOPING to find a newer model that I can afford, this one is getting a little "long in the tooth".

Do you mean the hydraulic power unit? I got it off of ebay. It's Chinese. Rated as general duty. 3 I think.

I'd be willing to bet that any of us would be hard pressed to find something in the marketplace of equal quality and strength. Great workmanship and a lot of thought went into your project, very nice. How did you cut those thick slabs of steel?

I searched a long time for a bed with this style hoist. Couldn't find one so decided to build my own.
