how to sell

A buddy of mine has a $50,000 pick up truck that he shouldn't of bought. He now wants to sell it. What do you think would be the best way to get the most out of it? Craigslist, Ebay auction or buy it now, or a sign out by the road. Thanks, Bill ( No it is not mine, my newest pickup is a 2006 )

Our local dealer used to sell on consignment. They had the foot
traffic, had experienced salesmen that dealt with the tire kickers,
and could help potential buyers get financed on the spot.
I don't know if they still do that but if so, it may be an option.

A guy that works for me sold his truck to a carmax dealership. Take there they will make an offer you have a week to accept it.

If it is a lemon and you don't want an angry buyer coming back at you, take the dollar loss and trade it into a dealership or sell it at a consignment place or auction, maybe the E-bay auction.

If it is a good truck and personal finances are the problem, clean it up nice, get it detailed ($150) and sell it privately for the best money. Use as much free/cheap advertising as possible: Craig's List; Facebook; Auto Trader in a large nearby city. Take a lot of pictures and include a lot of details in your ads.

If it is under a year old he is going to take a bath on it. Dealers are discounting the 19's cause the 20's are coming out. I think he is in for an expensive lesson.

How far upside down is he? If someone comes up with cash, your friend will have to have enough cash himself to clear the title. Maybe he can just get someone to take over the payments?

Hope he understands that selling it does not get him off the hook if he is upside down. If he is very far upside down he may as well let the bank have it and take the credit hit unless he has the gumption to get a 2nd or 3rd job and pay for the mistake.

If you go to Craig's list, you'll see all manner of pickups for sale for $30,000 to $50,000. You have to wonder about the circumstances on them. I suspect most of them are upside down and trying to salvage what they can.

The fact is, on a $50,000 pickup, unless you have a whopping down payment or high dollar trade in, you'll be upside down when you drive off the lot with little hope of reversing the situation.

Reminds me of the old joke- "How do you make a small fortune in farming"? Start with a large one.

Tell Vito where you left the keys so he can go for a drive and never return the truck. Then collect insurance. LOL
