I was just curious as to why many different Diesel engine manufacturers, in many different configurations and displacements, the timing averages 18 to 26 degrees BTC, and the D236 and the D282 are 5 degrees BTC, according to the I-T manual. Thanks, Fritz

The specifications for some engines require them to be timed using "the start of injection", and others "the end of injection".

Likely, that largely explains the HUGE variations between the numbers you posted.

As Bob said, some pumps use beginning injection timing, and some use end of injection timing. Depends what the engine builder wants..

And then the D-361 calls for 50 degrees for timing.

That's only with the RD pump.
