My guess is some sort of attachment to use the engine vacuum to run a milking machine. Possibly the large end screws off to attach the vacuum line to milking system.

(quoted from post at 12:05:55 08/05/19) Read up on patent number 2,547454.
Kinda hard to explain.

WOW, Duner!

Sure would be interesting to see what was printed on the label!

Label says Clear Ex Milwaukee WI and 3-4 patent numbers.
Good conversation piece at car/tractor show.
V8s use 2.

Probably a pulsed air intake that adds outside air to burn hydrocarbons remaining in the exhaust. Jim

(quoted from post at 12:36:33 08/05/19) Any clue what its for

Guess you didn't GOOGLE the patent?

" It is well known that following the explosion of a charge in a cylinder of an internal combustion engine of the 4-cycle type and the opening of the exhaust valve, the compressed burnt gases tend to evacuate the cylinder as a mass leaving in their wake a void within the cylinder. In the ordinary type of internal combustion engine, the void is partially replaced by exhaust gases returning to the cylinder. The succeeding charge, when drawn into the cylinder, then becomes partially mixed with burnt gases from the preceding explosion with the resulting lessening in the eiliciency of the engine.

I have invented, and am herein disclosing and claiming a vacuum accumulator adapted to be attached tothe exhaust manifold of an internal combustion engine which in its operation supplies fresh air via the exhaust manifold to the cylinder immediately after the evacuation of the burnt gases therefrom. Inasmuch as fresh air is introduced to the cylinders in place of returned burnt gases as in previous constructions, the eciency of the engine is greatly increased with a resulting saving in power and fuel. "

(quoted from post at 13:03:40 08/05/19) Guess I didn't need to. Jim

Jim, FUNNY, the guy invented the setup later used in the GM AIR systems that didn't use a vacuum pump, and didn't even know it!

There was an old ad showing that thing in a recent Classic car magazine I read. They were popular in the '40's and '50's.

The claim of increased efficiency is bogus. It would sure help emissions some, but the effect is on down stream beer. a little
late for increasing power/efficiency. Jim

I only see a connection on the intake, meaning that it can NOT do anything till the intake valve opens to get fresh air into the engine... and If that is so....

It sounds like quackery to me. as the vacuum is vital to getting mixture into the engine, and the gizmo can not improve on vacuum and letting air in there between the carb and engine..... can only lean the mixture/drop vacuum. And since tractors run at constant speed,, a vacuum dump when """"decelerating"""" would be a joke.

What am I missing? Is this like placing a magnet around the fuel line and getting twice the mpg??
