IH 383 Blowing Oil

A weird one. My IH383 was chugging along fine but due an oil change. Drained very black 10L of oil out, replaced filter and refilled with 10L of fresh oil.

Started and the breather on the rear left of the block is now spewing oil out everywhere. My first thought was have I over-filled it? but the same amount went in as came out.

Anyone any ideas?

Drain the oil back out into a clean container and see what you get. I overfilled a tractor from a boneheaded mistake and had oil blowing out the breather so it can happen as you suspect.

Yep thanks. I precisely measured what came out - 9.8L incl the oil in the old filter. I put back in 10L exactly.

But looking up the specs says 6.7L is the capacity so drained 3L out and problem solved. But the mystery of where the eff did the old 9.8L come from - am 100% certain about that as meaured it with a calibrated high tube.

But yeah thanks anyway.

While I'm on here does anyone know where I might get a new plastic brake cylinder cap (the one behind the drivers R foot)?

Apart from this the wee tractor has been an incredible workhorse.

Keep a close watch on the oil level.

If it starts to rise, or begins to blow out the breather, could be diesel getting in from the injector pump or a leaking injector.

Could also be hydraulic oil if there is a hyd pump driven off the engine common to the crankcase.
