New Tractor Prices

I was thinking about a new John Deere 2 series tractor with 54" mower deck, no loader, until I was quoted a $19,500 sales price. Has a tariff already affected these prices? Seems really high for a little 2025r tractor.....

Tariffs would have little effect on JD compact tractors. The model your looking at is made in Augusta, Georgia. The Yanmar engine is made in CA IRC. This size tractor is a hot item right now. People are buying them instead of the old Ford 2/8N size tractors. So the margins on them are higher. Also inflation has eaten the purchase power of your money. It really shows on higher ticket items like tractors and cars/trucks.

If your just going to be using it to mow with drop down to a 700 series garden tractor. They will out mow the 2025R and cost about half the money.

It's the green paint tariff. Green paint, and orange paint are super expensive. Red and blue paint are cheaper.

Deere Gators, garden tractors like the 300,500,700 series, and the compact tractors may be assembled in various US plants but the parts come from various foreign plants. There's huge warehouses full of imported parts on the south edge of Janesville, Wi. Used to be General Motors Just in Time warehouses now they're Deere's. Everything from off-shore has to be repackaged into the special knock-down fiberglass pallet boxes Deere uses in there plants.

Son said he used to use two US made Panduit cable ties on the snow plow lights of graders at the Davenport plant. Then one day came a cheap imitation part made in some country he'd never heard of. Instead of grabbing two per light wiring harness he had to grab a fist full, dozen or so, the eyelet would not be molded all the way thru, or the end had so much molding flash it wouldn't fit in the eyelet. The one's he could get the end through the little tang that locked them in place would break off. So instead of using 4 per grader he used about a Dozen. He told his Boss about the situation, wasting parts, and time, his boss said Purchasing Management approved the change, make them work. He asked for rolls of 3M Electrical tape to use instead and Engineering rejected his request. In my 30 years of purchasing parts for assembly of equipment I had situations I could not "Afford Free parts". Yep, some buyer met his cost savings goal and got a raise and a bonus but it took SON ten extra minutes screwing around with junk imported parts.
