I am about done mowing here in sunny Southern California. Everyone should have their weeds cut by now, as the fire season has already started. I had a good year close to 80 customers fields. Some small Some large. My JD 401B with the flail mower did most of the work. Just a couple small mechanical issues is all the trouble I had. My 231 MF with a Woods 6 ft. rotary also did some. I have a couple bottom land fields that just keep growing, is all I have left. Time for my motorcycle, and car projects. How are you folks doing? Anyone just finishing your crops, or just starting? Stan

My corn was just sprayed for the final time. It had a fungicide and foliar feed sprayed yesterday. Now all it has to do is finish pollinating and fill ears. Im not a big promoter of foliar feeding corn but the sprayer was making a pass with the fungicide anyway so adding another ingredient wasnt much more expensive. The soybeans are growing like crazy and look great but so are the weeds. Weeds in the beans are a big problem in this area this year.

Stan,
I don't have to deal with wild fires like you do in California.
Are you required to cut your weeds to prevent wild fires?

I do hay and it's been a stellar year, probably my best since retiring....other than the downed I just got rained on...recoverable. Looks like will be cutting on into September.

Each city requires weeds to be cut around houses, or fields. Our city has a private fire inspection service. They will sight the owner, and in 30 days if nothing is done the private company will cut the weeds, at a highly inflated price. Stan

I do hay in s.w.Pa. I have a big field of third cutting yelling cut me now. Have 5 more fields of second cut overdue and only seven more fields of first cut to go. Only problem is so much rain I only get about one field a week. Guess I'll be done November 12th.

I have seen folks around here still baling in Nov. and Dec. Tricky but they get it done...quality??? Er ah, something to feed-eat is better than nothing.

I cut some Fescue mix hay once over Thanksgiving to keep a guy in land use for the year, it was green and pretty good really. It didn't really cure any as it was pretty cold so I just baled it up and fed it back to the cows.
