1100 reason I HATE trees

This maple has 5 trees sharing same stump. Lightning damage caused branches to rot. $1100 to have tree removed.
Over my lifetime, I've spent tens of thousands for tree removal. Not to mention tree damage to building.
Did I mention I HATE TREES.

The tree was taller than the bucket truck could go. I'm estimating it was at least 75 feet.

My tree guy can't find anyone who wants to work. He only had one man. So terramite to the rescue. Owner did the cutting, I used terramite to stack the big wood that couldn't go through the chipper and take the sticks to the chipper.

When finish he used a Cat to load logs in dump truck.

Considering he was shot handed, we made short work of the tree.

I was cutting a big dead oak tree one time. It leaned SW, the wind was blowing to the SW, it had a huge branch leaning out to the SW, I notched it correctly on the SW side, got around on the opposite and made the horizontal cut to drop it, about 6" above the level of the SW notch, AND IT BROKE AND DROPPED RIGHT AT ME, TOWARDS THE NE!! Luckily Rosemary was watching and yelled LOOK OUT. Didn't hurt me, but I had to go clean out my shorts.

If you don't like them you could clear cut your place and be done with it. There are people around that would take a tree down for less than that. After all it's less than a days work and a lot of people have a chain saw. It's just when the tree is close to wires or a building you need better qualified people doing it.

Looks like silver maple. That's a weed, grows like crazy, cover you with seeds, rots fast and isn't even good firewood. Old neighbor when I was a kid had on huge one close to the house with concrete all around it. The roots pushed up the concrete so he had a crew tear it out, cut all the surface root out and poured over it again. It kept right on growing.

Growing up on the Great Plains of South Dakota, I?ve as my Dad and Brother have, spent way more money planting trees than taking them out. And it?s been worth every dime. Especially during blizzards.

So you had to get a Cat skid steer in there to do the real work that the terramite couldn't handle?

Ceders, hedge and locust are wanting to take over pastures around here. Hate them. Wait, have ceders for a north and west windbreak, hedge makes all the fence post I need and locust I have no use for. Elm trees make good shade in the summer to work under on a piece of equipment in the yard.

I removed 55 trees around 95/96 I got tired of mowing around them picking up limbs and pine cones. I have a couple more to get and should be done.

In this day and time with AC I don't see a reason to let them ruin your house...

Around 2001 when I built my new shop I had to get a dozer and a track hoe to remove two stumps $$$ one tree that was close to my old shop it cost me $800 to just get it to a stump...

Not me, I love trees. And I?ve planted thousands in my lifetime. Planted them all over family property, friends properties and when I bought 22 acres of pasture land where I built my home in 1990, I planted three varieties of pines, white oaks, live oaks, water oaks, red oaks, cherry bark oaks, elm trees, sycamores, ash trees, river birch, red maples, yellow poplars, sweet gums, apple trees, pear trees, peach trees, and more. And today my property is absolutely beautiful, it?s worth more because of the trees, more comfortable during the summer due to the shade, created a nice wind break during cold winter winds, attracted wildlife such as whitetail deer, turkeys, etc. Yep, you can say I love trees.....

Terramite can do do the heavy lifting.
It stacked all the big logs in drive.
The truck sides were too tall or I would
have loaded the truck.

Grayrider,I agree we have planted 100's of trees and bushes on our property. Much more comfortable with the shade. Lots more birds, bees , butterflies. We love trees. Of course we have paid several hundred dollars to have a lightning struck pecan tree removed......part of home ownership.

I kinda like trees. Green in summer grey in winter. They provide shade in summer and wind block in winter. We have transplanted over 40 walnut, cedar, oak, basswood, maple, and spruce in the last year. Oh, and to keep this tractor related they work really good to cut on the sawmill with the steamer and gas tractor. They can be cut into lumber to make parts for buildings for tractors and tractor activities. Did I forget to mention I?d look stupid cutting milk jugs on sawmill.

I had two big timber sales (25 years apart) on the farm I recently sold after being there 40 years so I kind of like trees yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy pretty much for what I paid for the entire farm..... BUT I do hate constantly picking up soft maple tree limbs where I now live after selling the last farm grrrrrrrrrrrrr

Got to manage trees. Maples like that need to be dealt with when small. I use spike on stubborn ones, and Tordon RTU on stumps. They do not come back.

If you wait until sprouts grow you can have costly problems.

I like trees too but eradicate my share.

Of all the different species of trees I?ve planted in my lifetime I have one variety that I do regret planting and that?s the ?Sycamore?, they are beautiful trees when healthy, grow really fast, has beautiful bark, but they consistently drop limbs, and sometimes go through a blight where the tops die out for some reason. Some I?ve planted are now mature and probably exceed 70? in height now and others have struggled just to survive, don?t have an explanation for it. All along the river banks in south Alabama I?ve noticed mature Sycamore trees that have died on the top half of its canopy, does anyone know what?s up with that?

Well everyone has likes and dislikes. I like trees. Nothing better than a nice shade tree on a hot summer day. I have cleared trees that are in the wrong place and I have planted thousands in the correct place. My brood cows like shade from trees in the summer and tree wind breaks in the winter.

I have planted many thousands of trees and as a part time logger have cut thousands of trees . sure would be sad not to have any trees. Randy

Tht was a big tree. I'd hate to live in a place without trees. Helped my Dad plant many trees around here 40+ years ago and I appreciate them every day. Sure they take a little maintenance but that shade when its 90 degrees, or the shelter from the winter blizzards is worth it to me. Got a few hundred acres of natural wood land as well. The modern, efficient farmers are clearing out every tree right up to the roads so I appreciate my woods even more. Looking forward to the day when we are paid credits for the carbon sequestration of all the trees on my land. :=)

I love trees, even though they are a lot of work and occasionally try to murder me. My place is an old one and there are a lot of big trees. Makes it the prettiest place on our stretch of road. The neighbors all rent their land and the BTO came in about 4 years ago and cleared them all out of trees. This year he planted none of it. No one is saying why exactly but it was a wet year. So there are a lot of weedy expanses to look out on. Glad I told him no and took over my own.

Is that a silver maple? They truly are a pain in the butt. Grow like weeds and are brittle. You all ready found out that part.

My last three trees will be gone on the 12th. Not by choice, but I'm sick of screwing around with it and worrying if they will damage my barn when they come down. $1900 for a day's work, but I'll get something back when I sell the timber and firewood. It's a relief, actually, even though I'm not happy about it.

Living on the windswept prairies of southern Minnesota, trees are a valuable asset. Every farmsite has a grove, that?s not by accident. You don?t want to be here over winter without the shelter of a grove........

Chainsaw cost a few $100 never spent thousands to clear away trees, but yea they have damaged a building or two slightly.

HATE. Really? Trees do a lot of good. 1100 would buy a
LOT of logs to make firewood and I guess I wouldn?t like
spending so much. You?ll probably sleep better without that
widow maker hanging there.

Don't have to plant trees here in Central Virginia, don't mow a field for a couple years and it'll turn into a forest with Pines,Oaks,Hickory,Red Cedar,Dogwood,Pear,Russian olive,
Gum,Poplar,Sycamore,Persimmon,Red Bud,Walnut,Ash,Maples you name it comes up here by itself.

That's what lighting does. It doesn't kill the whole tree. That's where lighting usually strikes; the trees. Seen it up close a couple of times. Then about a week later you will see the leaves starting to turn brown and fall off, but only the top and usually one branch.

I would live long enough to get rid of all the trees. Removed many trees and Asian honeysuckle.

Terramite does the heavy lifting.

Everyone that sees what the terramite can do are impressed. They can't believe it's only a 20 hp Kohler gas engine.
