Cedarburg Wis.

Are there any YTers near Cedarburg? My wife and I just spent 3 days there celebrating our 50th anniversary. Stayed at the Washington House Hotel in town and attended the Ozaukee County fair. We went to Port Washington and ate at the Twisted Willow Restaurant and walked on the beach and went hiking. We drove up from Northern Ky. near Cincinnati. About 450 miles one way. I made a little side trip to the Struck factory where Magna Trac dozers are made. Ellis

My farm is about 110 miles northwest of Cedarburg. Back around 1960, I was a pilot with the Wis National Guard. They had their aviation base at the West Bend airport which is just a little ways north of Cedarburg. We flew Beavers, L19s and helicopters. I bought a Mini-Dozer in 1970 which was shortly after they came out. I first saw one on the Johnny Carson show. I had it shipped (kit form) to my home in the NE US. Put it together and used it for all kinds of things. Plowing snow, landscaping, wood hauling, dirt moving, etc. Sold it in 1986 for the same price I paid for it and that guy traded it for a Farmall 300.

I went to the National Farm Machinery show in Louisville this past Feb and took a side trip to Mammoth Cave, Lincoln's birthplace, Churchill Downs, etc. Also visited The Arc. Pretty interesting country. I also spent a good bit of time at old Fort Ka-nox way back when.

Howdy Ellis & happy 50th! I live about 20 minutes northwest of Cedarburg. I haven't been to the fair in Oz in ages. Last time I was there, I was part of my buddies pit crew for the demo's. Must be at least 20 years. There's a lot to see in that town. Hope you had a chance to walk around while you were there. A couple of sights I like pointing out are the old interurban bridge (over the river behind downtown) & interurban station. Then there's the Wadham's pagoda style gas station. They have an outstanding mineral & gem shop on the north side of town by the Woolen Mills & my favorite place to eat there is the Chocolate Factory. It's a great soda fountain!

Roger mentioned the tractor show in Dodge Co. I don't know how long you folks plan on being in the area, but you may want to check it out. It's a good-sized show & it's been around as long as I can remember. Their show flyer indicates that this would have been Bolens 100th year. They were a fixture of Port Washington for a long time, as well as Simplicity & ....I think it was Gilson?.... or maybe they were in Plymouth. Either or, I plan on heading over to the tractor show, tomorrow, to burn up some film. Should you end up over there, let me know & we can meet up if you would like.

Mike

I plan on being at the Dodge county show tomorrow with my IHC KB1 pickup. Go every year. My favorite local show for sure.
