solar charging from a fence unit

Has anyone used a 6 volt solar fence panel as a battery maintainer? I've got two where the innards went bad but the panel is still putting out the voltage.

It would probably be better than nothing, although I get by fine with nothing. Do you have a drain? if so fix it or install a
battery isolator switch.

Trying to remember, but seem like there are deer feeders with a small solar cell connected directly to the battery.

It would make a difference on the size of the solar cell, the size of the battery, the drain/load on the battery, cell exposure to the sun...

Those solar panels only put out about 5 watts of power, very little chance of overcharge. If your worried you can get a charge controller it will
prevent overcharge.

Thanks for the thoughts , guys. What I am really concerned about is if when there is no sun can it be a drain. The tractor doesn't get run enough to keep the charge. Looking for a way to keep it up.

I don't think it will be a drain. We put one of those fencers on a remote pasture fence, and pretty much forgot about it. Years later its buried in weeds and brush. I'm fixing the fence and get a mild shock! Kept going and got shocked again, this time harder... That danged solar fencer was STILL WORKING!

Mine both worked great til ants used the circuit board for a nesting site. But the panel still generates.

I have a 12 volt solar panel off of a solar charger on my tilt trailer to keep the battery for the tilt charged up (there is also a charger hooked into the light circuit for when it is hooked to truck)I put a diode in it so it does not drain the battery at night.Keeps the battery up to snuff during the winter when we do not use it as much

When it was so dry in 2012 I could work on
live fence as long as I stayed on the 4
wheeler. Now and then the Parmak would give
me a tingle. Had to go shut off the Sta-
fix.
