Farm Accident

Saw on ther local news this morning that there was someone killed in a farming accident in Gallia County Ohio yesterday; It was near Addison which is about 8 miles from me. They didn't give any details on exactly what was involved or anything, just said someone was killed. Supposed to have more information on it this evening. We baled hay on flat fields yesterday but even something can go wrong or someone can have a momentary lapse of memory for a moment. Tomorrow we'll be square baling on some STEEP ground and it requires special attention at all times on that field. It's steep enough that square bales sometimes go rolling when they come out of the shute of the baler. Since the Kubota went back to the shop yesterday I'll be raking with the Allice WD narrow front. She has always raked that field without any problem but I know to watch. (hopefully)

I mowed my steep one yesterday. I rake with the 886 and without duals and I have to be careful. I?ve had to put a foot against the window to stay in the seat on that field. It makes chasing round bales fun. I tend to turn out pretty quick when I get the feeling the sidehill will be too much, but I always do worry with a single wheel tractor. I hate raking with ideals so I always use the 886, but I?ve been tempted to use a bigger tractor. Your WD should be low enough to the ground to help you out. It?s gettig the squares off that will be fun for you.

Had a serious incident near where I live yesterday, also. Don't know details, but, appears someone in a vehicle rear ended tractor pulling implement on the highway. From what I could see, hard impact.

My son nearly lost his trigger finger yesterday, was hitching an empty wagon to the pickup. Thanks to a skilled surgeon he will probably keep it.

Things happen quickly and unexpectedly. Be safe out there.

That same thing happened here in '06, just over the back side of my ridge/woodlot. I can see how easy this can happen in some cases. My foldable OROPS/open station tractor, from the seat there is an open path to the ground in front of the rear axle, ROPS up and seatbelt on is a must do.

Distant neighbor had his middle finger pulled into an atv winch, someone hit the wrong button and sucked it in instead of letting it out as I heard it.

Saw him playing his accordion n the last parade, good to see looks like he had all 10 digits. Again as I heard it, he had to go to three surgeons to find one to try to save
the finger first 2 said not worth trying, took leeches and all sorts.

Stuff happens so fast.

That's one reason I switched to a kubota with foot pedal hydrostatic if for any reason my right foot comes off that pedal it will just stop and set there.im 63 this year and do alot of brushhoging around my place to just keep things looking nice. The second reason is my dad was run over and killed two years ago by a to30 Ferguson with a finish mower on the back which wasn't running but was on the ground he got all twisted and broken up from being dragged underneath it which sets basically right on the ground with very little room underneath. He was found alive two hours later by a neighbor but passed before the life flight helicopter got there.the tractor kept going and went into a pine tree with low hanging branches which opened up the throttle wide open it set there and buried itself in the ground until it bottomed out and eventually ran out of gas.to this day no one knows how he ended up underneath it.

Notjust air, you are so right about the bales. I've raked this field for several years with ther WD but decided since it needs a new 6v battery, I'll rake with ther Ford 960 narrow front instead. Only problem with it is it sometimes jumps out of 2nd gear, I know this and always hold it in when going down steep hills so it shouldn't be a problem. That's probably what the guy said just before he put one in the woods LOL. Keith
