Neighbor Having A Bad Day

This guy is about a mile from me at next closest ranch.
Bearing probably went out and set baler on fire. It was to
involved for the fire extinguisher he had or to pull pin and get
tractor out. I?ll finish baling for him.

With as many fires as balers have, you would think there would be on board fire suppression and/or quick detach even if it meant a charge that blew the baler hitch apart.

Wonder why he didn't Face the tractor into the wind, pull the pin and go ?
Bet there was no 2-1/2 gallon class Extinguisher on the machine either.

I was lucky enough to be baling the field next to the pond when mine did that. I backed it in the water real quick like. That was the worst mistake I ever made. Insurance fixed it and it was never the same. After that I?ve sworn never to put out another baler fire.

I always keep an eye on the baler when baling, not much to burn on a chain baler plus nothing is hidden like on some of these newer belt balers.I like to see what is going on when
I'm running a piece of equipment. If he'd of been paying the least bit of attention you'd think he could have gotten the tractor unhooked or the bale dumped when the first smoke started.

Maybe T.F. but maybe not so OBVIOUS if your baling while driving into the wind on a long field.
By the time you turn around to see/smell anything it is too late.

And people tend to become complacent and not so vigilant/paranoid when things are going good for long periods of time.

A Farmer down the road a piece had one go up like that. Talked to the Deere dealer, seems like the fellow didn't like to clean his tractor. He had brought it in 3 months before complaining of It getting hot. Well they opened up the hood and it was packed full of hay and dust.

Yea guess so, when I'm baling I spend about 75% of the time turned looking at the baler.Plus with no cab I can smell if something is starting to burn, things like hay and belts have their
own distinctive smell.

I forgot to
Mention adding a cupful of dish soap to the water in the 2-1/2 gallon class A pressurized extinguisher.
The soapy water will stick and soak into the flaming material instead of rolling off . Even does a fair job on burning liquid fuel with the layer of sudds .
