Transporting Trailer Plows

Hi All,

I am looking for advice on how to transport trailer type trip plows, specifically IH Little Genius if it makes any difference.

The first question, how does one get them on and off a trailer? Specifically a gooseneck? The only time I had any on a trailer a bucket tractor was needed to get them on and off. They seem to bottom out where the ramp starts dipping down even in the highest position, in addition to not wanting to back up, which leads to the second question.

The second question, is there a way to back up with the plow attached to the tractor without the rear wheel jamming? I haven't been to one myself, but I know plow days are held in some areas and most participants bring their own plows with their tractor, so I would imagine there is a way or at least a method to getting it to reverse off a trailer?

Still a bit new to using these types of plows so if anyone has any additional advice or places to find more general information on the plows and their use feel free to add that as well.

Thank you!

I just back up to the plow with my hydraulic tilt bed trailer, drop the tail end of the trailer hook the winch to the plow and pull it up on the trailer.Loaded two
brush hogs last Saturday at an auction like that.

On the IH Little Genius Plow there was a stop for the curved rod at the top of the tail wheel assembly. This could be used to lock the tail wheel in one position when needed, as in loading/unloading. I have only seen it on one plow so its availability would be basically zero. A good tractor with loader is the best solution using straps instead of chains if one does not want to scratch the paint.

To hold that wheel a pair of good vice grips to clamp on that rod. Good for road transport as well.

One of the plows does still have the stop at the end of the rod, I was wondering if that is what it was meant for. The other however does not. Had a few suggestions to use vice grips so will try that. May have to end up using the loader anyways due to the angle of the ramp and the points of the shares not clearing. Thank you!
