Need a really SLOW tractor

Planning on building a rig to turn long compost piles, and most designs need a tractor that SLOWLY creeps along to allow the rotors to till the pile.

There are some lightweight rigs on the web...might need a more robust design.

To me that means a hydrostatic type drive, not a clutched rig.

Looking for clues to select a 60hp-80hp tractor that can creep along at <1/2mph. The extra power here is for other major farm duties, not just flipping poo.

OR a better design of compost pile turner.

The tractor should come out of the IH Case family

Case 830 COM. I think mine will creep along about that fast.
Why reinvent it. There?s lots of hydrostatic drive units out there also.

Case IH Farmall series. 1 and 1 gear a one legged man can out walk it. 3 and 4 gear 20 mph.
70 to 120 hp units.

70....no DEF. Here in SE Texas with loader....new....35K

Yup, the hydro IHC tractors from the mostly 1970s-80s would be the rugged tractors of the day with common parts other than the hydro.

Find a good one or buy real cheap and rebuild. would be a good tractor with a lot of value when you don?t want it.

Think they had several models from 50 to 100+ hp?

99% of all tractors will run 1.3-1.6 mph in low gear at pto speed, did a good bit of research on this some years ago.
I wouldn't want a 60-80 hp tractor with hydrostatic trans.
You'll need to look for a tractor with the optional creeper gears but it was a option so not many used models will have that feature.
My poultry house cleaner and compost turner also recommended a slow 1/2 - 1 mph operating speed.
I manage to use the cleaner with my slowest tractor at 1.2 mph and found a compost turner to fit my skid loader.

Last time I checked NH, Case IH, JD, Kubota all offer the optional creeper gears but hardly any dealer stocks them.
You best option would be to check dealers in areas that have several poultry or turkey house operations, they are probably the primary users of that type of tractor in the hp range you mentioned.

i bought a massy 65 at tri-greens once that had a set of planetaries on the axles,..boy was that thing slow. if you could find one like that you'd be set to go.....slow that is.

Our CIH 7210 with creeper gears is glacially slow in low-low - about 0.4 mph at governed RPM. At 140 HP it's a bit more than you are need however(!)

If you look in produce-growing regions like California you might be able to find a "mudder" style of tractor. Most of them have a creeper range that provides numerous speeds well below 1
mph and have about the power you're looking for.

Get an older Ford, like 1960's vintage with the SOS transmissions. Has 10 speeds forward. Surely one would suit your purpose. Course my 2007 Branson
6530 has 3x4 for 12 plus a creep mode (divide by 2) giving me a total of 24 F or R. If you want to go slow, this sucker can go slow!

As slow as the select o speed was it still did 1 mph at pto rpm.
