I haven't had a home computer for 4
years. I have unlimited high speed data
on my phone and do everything from
there. I do miss having a computer
though. I especially miss having a key
board.
A friend has a used computer he will
give me. Is there a way to connect a
computer to the internet through my
phone?
Thanks.

If you can hook up a WiFi router to your phone yes it can be done. Now that I am on Hughes net one computer is hard wired to the system and all others use WiFi. I have 2 computer I use so I can be at two places at the same time

Yes but first ask your carrier about how much data you got and how much will it take to make your smartphone a "HOTSPOT" .its in the setting you turn your smartphone into a hot spot like a router so to say.diffrent phones have diffrent routs to set them up.
Im not great at explaning computer crap but thats best i can say it

I am using a hotspot on my wife's phone right now, at the cabin. All we have here is Verizon Cell, we don't have unlimited data but we get by ok, we're here less than 10 days a month.

I'm on Hughes Net also, Rich. But I do have a desktop with a modem, and for the most part, it works pretty well, except during heavy rain or snow, or doing the school year when the kids get home and go on the internet, then it slows down. We (in our township) have voted in access through a fiber optic network. When that gets done, I expect my download speeds to be much faster. They're working on it right now.

That's the ONLY way I connect to internet, via Verizon.

As far as computers goes, a lot depends on how old the PC is, processor speed, does it have wifi modem or would you use Ethernet (blue) cable, operating system, etc.

What all are you wanting to do with the computer? Word processing? Printing documents? Streaming movies? If the ONLY reason for wanting a computer is the convenience of a keyboard, you can get a Bluetooth keyboard for your smart phone. Check here:
https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Bluetooth+Keyboard&qid=1563998573&ref=sr_pg_1

When looking at keyboards for your phone, they MUST say Bluetooth. The word "wireless" is used for laptops and desktops, and use USB.

For a little more money, here's a fullsize keyboard AND mouse that will work on your phone:
https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-7N...&qid=1563998573&s=gateway&sr=8-29

Another option is to buy a Bluetooth keyboard, and a separate Bluetooth mouse, such as this:
https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Com...e&qid=1563998878&s=gateway&sr=8-5

I believe there is also a way to view your phone on a larger screen/monitor, but am not familiar with that.

Wife has a bluetooth keyboard that she got with her phone several years ago. It's quite small, but certainly larger than the phone screen. Works great, but we never use it. Looks much like the first listing in the first link.

Thanks fellows.
It's something to start researching.
I think I'll not take the free computer.
There's plenty of those out there for cheap when I'm ready.
