W Speed Patrol let me down yesterday

So I went out to grade my driveway and I got about half way out and it started to spit and sputter and back fire out the carb. Choking did help some but still not able to keep it running. So I walked back to the hose and got the IH584 and hooked it up to pull it back home. I figured since the boy was with me I'd show him how to drive the 584 and I'd work the grader while being pull by him. Fun it seemed to do a better job of grading when being pulled then it does on it own power. On it own power many times it hits a hard area and then spins out. But being pulled by the bigger tractor only time we had a spin out was then the loader bucket had blew down and was dragging at the same time I was grading.

Took the sediment bowl assembly off this morning and found a leave in the inlet down pipe. Got it out plus since it did not have a stand pipe I made one so it is not sucking right off the bottom of the tank. Should be good to go now

Come on old, how can you blame your trusty, faithful old Speed Patrol for letting you down when someone fed it leaves instead of gasoline?

This is the first time in years that that has happened. Years ago like say 15 or so I installed an engine out of a WD I pick up cheap and the engine had been said to be overhauled. As for the leave I found well any time you open up a gas tank that can happen since they fall off trees and the wind blows them around

The tow tractor doesn't have a blade pushing up on it's belly. I would like to own a speed patrol some day. I have a box blade that does a good job but it still would be cool to have an old speed patrol.

Yes the belly blade does a would lot better job then a back blade or box blade due to it being under the middle of the machine and you have power down all be it arm strong power but it is still power down. Years ago I did my driveway with a back blade and would never think about going back to it

The whee centers are weights in them self's. Not sure if I could add more weights or not. I do have one wheel weight on the draw bar that is off an JD-D. I figure when I change out the tire that I was told 20 or so years ago needed to be replaced I'll add wiper fluid to the tires

Hey young fella, you have been telling us twice a year for about fifteen years about hanging weights on the blade in order to get some bite. That isn't the blade on the speed patrol?

NO I did that on my Ford 841S with the back blade so I have the weight to be able to move the big round bales of hay I have. No wight on the back blade and one or both the rear tires will come off the ground when I try to lift a bale. I have even posted pictures of it in the past. Putting weights on the blade of the Speed Patrol would cause many problem and would not help traction. Adding weight to the blade of the Speed Patrol would make it very hard to lift the blade as needed to grade the road since it is all hand power. Makes me think you do not know what and how a speed patrol is set up

I have one that needs a motor for sale for $900. It was a Spokane county unit, they converted the hand controls to hydraulic and gave it power steering.
