Restoration Question

I recently purchased a 1950 John Deere B at an auction that was in need of some help. The engine, brakes, and several other parts were stuck but I liked it cause it hadn't been messed with. The tractor still had about 50% of its original paint which is to say that it is pea green with faded decals and has some spots of rust. I got it running great and it is a good tractor. Yesterday evening, the sun was hitting it just right and I noticed a very faded decal on the hood by the dash and it says "Shimerka Implement Company Prague, Nebraska Phone 14A." It got me to thinking, I was going to paint the tractor but have never seen a dealer's decal on a restored tractor. I am thinking now that I should leave it the way it is. Anybody remember this dealership? Mike

Just a thought, Maybe possible to place ruler next to decal for scale and photograph it, possible talk to some one in a sign shop or others and reproduce a new vinyl decal with a printer? Chime in if you know more about possibilities of this as I'm curious to. Leroy

Right now, an original paint tractor is more sought after than a newly painted or shiny tractor. Only original once.

I thought about doing that except the top of the decal is faded off. Only part left is the dealership, address and phone. I tried to do a little research on the dealership with google and found a couple of advertising memorabilia featuring this dealer starting around 1950-51 and they sold John Deere and New Idea equipment. I couldn't find when they opened or how long they were in business. It would be nice to know something about the dealership for the history of it.

Mike, I'm some what familiar with the area as dad lived close at one time. Prague is in Saunders County. You might try this web sight for more info, saunderscomuseum.org, this is the county museum and historical society, they may have more info on this old dealership if you contact them. Leroy

this dealership was owned by my late father's uncle. I am fuzzy on the history of it but I am pretty sure it was still in business in the 80's The building is still there as far as I know. My dad was from Abie and my mom grew up on a farm near Bruno. Both little towns were near Prague but we never went there.
