I made a mistake and posted this in the wrong section earlier. Want to run this by you guys. International knotter, 430 440 445 balers, was tying only one string, a single bow knot. Kind of like not picking up both strings. Changed out the knotter and no more problems. Yes it wrapped the string around the bale and tied, knife worked as it should but knot would come untied. Bow was correct length. kind of an odd issue. All I can come up with is bill hook and or a closing cam issue. Any thoughts or ideas?

I don?t know I just hope my 440 never quits tying because it seems like not very many people know anything about the IH knotter . The IH baler sold across the pond has the style of knotter like the new Holland Or John Deere or Hesston

Hi does the baler have the "All Twine" knotter? Never worked on them but worked on the old IH knotters a lot.
You are correct, the problem would indicate that the bill hook was not holding time long enough to tie knot properly.

No that many people that know anything at all about any kind of baler. My brother is having a rough time keeping his big square baler running - with 6 knotters tying at the same time.

Replace the spring that controls the bill hook closing pressure. International specs a compressed length for the spring rather than amount of force needed to open the bill hooks, with age the spring fatigues and while it?s still the right length it?s no longer the right force on the bill hook closing cam. I?ve been through this on dads IH 37, my IH 430 & new idea 555, & a friends IH 430 in all cases replacing the spring fixed the issues though they all took some fine tuning to get perfect. Also DO NOT just tighten the fatigued spring as this can cause the closing cam to not be able to work properly and things get broke. This applies to. Both the all twine and original knotters on the 46, 37, &47

Dave thanks much I have several knotters on the bench that do not work. Problem is I cannot find a deffinit issue. Comparing parts like Bill hook cam they all look same. Also going to check the hook drive gear. Been working on knotteres for years they still drive you crazy.

One basic rule with knotters is that if there is a knot on only the twine that is above the bale and none on the twine that the needle brought up, that the problem is probably the tucker fingers if JD or NH, and probably needle adjustment if MF or IH. The twine has to get to the knotters in order for the knotters to tie.
