Stump grinders

I have seen a few different styles of them too. But I have not ran one.
If anyone has please describe what type you have too.

The only ones I have used and the best set up is on a track hoe, second best was the big screw type on a tracked skid steer. Have used a wheeled self propelled but it is limited to leveler ground than what I am usually on.

Bottom line is, what's the terrain like where you plan to use it? If it's hilly the track hoe is the way to go, because of the reach.

So for a 3-point don't expect to be using it on very steep ground, and I would also get s stiff neck from turning around watching.

I had never heard of one before, but Google is my friend!

I am fairly impressed with the way this one works, but you need a fair amount of HP, live PTO, and slow gears. Hydro-static would be nice and a direction reverser. Our JD 4600 would run one, they only recommend up to 45 hp. I onetime rented a walk behind, it barely did the job, but you could get anywhere with it. The big ones behind a truck work the best if you have the room. Last year I had a guy come with a Vermeer walk behind that worked OK, he could drive across the lawn without damage, had about a 24 hp v-twin.

I have one. Has a 24" wheel. Takes more time to back it up and get it on outrigger pads turn on the PTO, than it does to take the stump out.
Heavy unit, will lift the front end on N series ford, Dextas, old MF35 size tractors. Works best with a loader to off set. I use it with a 4000 Ford 4x4 with loader, about the size of a NH3930
WOOD 1150.
I also have a RAYCO, hydrostatic drive 25HP Kolar unit with 16" cut wheel.

With my 3 pt, back on edge of stump centered, and go on outrigger, then get off and toggle it till the stump is gone. Has shields to stop the flying stuff.

Mine works fine, takes finesse, learned skills and patience. The stumps don't willingly go.

I can't comment on the grinder, but I gotta woodland mills chipper. It's one bad a$$ piece of iron. Good Luck.

No idea about 3 pt grinder.
Neighbor bought one for his bobcat. Didn't like it.

He now has a 75 hp turbo diesel that he moves around in yards with front of bobcat. It is remote controlled. Never seen a stump grinder eat a stump so fast. He transports his bobcat inside a 3 axle dump trailer and pulls the stump grinder behind dump trailer.

I would imagine it would depend a lot on the tractor you put it on. They would probably work good on one tractor and terrible on another. I've used an stump grinder before and it needs a lot of weight and power.

I have a Miller Pro-150, needs 75-150 hp, 1000 rpm PTO, 3 remotes, weights 2370lbs, 30 inch cutting wheel. Takes longer to move to stump and position (Minutes) than to get rid of stump. Hydraulic positioning of cutting disc with swing, lift, and telescoping functions, all controlled from the tractor. Cuts up to 36" stumps without repositioning. Pine stumps up to 30" takes 1-2 minutes to grind 10" below ground level. Old oak stump, cut for a year or two takes 3-4 minutes, green oak takes a little longer. Have ground 400-500 stumps, in East Texas edge of the Piney woods. This is a stump eating machine.

I rented one a few years ago it was a walk behind
not sure what the make was, it had a 15-18 in rotor blade on front
it worked well
