electronic ig

YT Tractor has breakerless kits for the older 2000 with the USA four-cylinder engine and the latere 2000 with the British three-cylinder engine. Not what I'd call "electronic ignition" but breakerless conversion, yes.

If you buy points buy good quality. Blue streak or high end napa (cant remember the product line...). The pertonics electronic ignition module I put in a rig I owned years ago and liked it quite a bit, however, it seems as there are alot of folks who have had reliability issues with them on their tractors.

Right here, click the link, go about 1/3 down the page, find your model.

I have had 100% success with the Pertronix kits.

They work well with less than perfect distributors where there is wear in the shaft bushings.

You will need to use resistor wires.

You must have the correct coil. As in a coil with the right resistance, 1.5 ohm for 6v, 3 ohm for 12v. The kit is polarity sensitive, so if yours is 6v pos ground, be sure to get the correct kit and know you intend to keep it that way.

It is an easy install, just follow the directions. Call Pertronox if you need help, they will gladly assist.

Cept even Standard (owns Blue Streak AND Echlin) is letting quality slip. See if they ain't selling they ain't going to put the time and effort into making something that you buy once every 10 years or so. And there is how many guys out there with something that required points?

In case you didn't get the memo........points are now a specialty item. I don't think they even teach em in a trade school course anymore. Kinda like 18-19 years ago. They taught carburetor theory but didn't actually have any hands on training.

I am actually surprised anyone carries points anymore for less than 100 bucks, just not a demand.

(quoted from post at 09:07:21 07/17/19) Where can I find a replacement for the points on my Ford 2000 and how hard is it to install the electronic ignation

Ken despite what the nay sayers say, I'm 100% on board with the EI conversions. Point as just something else that requires periodic maintenance and soon will be difficult to find. No, not tomorrow. But in the next 10-20 years.

I've put EI on 2 8Ns, a Farmall M and have a kit on my wish list for my Ford 860. If I could convert the pony on my D4 that would be EI too.

I think the early problems that have been stated on the EI are easily rectifiable, and do not know if they are. It seems to me like most of the failures described here have been attributed to leaving the key on and burning up the unit, not unlike a set of points would do. That could be remedied by adding a little logic on the EI to put them in low power mode if RPM's not seen for a while. There have always been, and will always be nay sayers.

I like the maintenance-free aspect of the breakerless kits from Pertronix. That said, getting parts for that fails - even now - is more
difficult then with original points. 10-20 years from now - might be impossible. At least from Pertronix. Points will always be available.
I had some of the early 70s kits back when the company was Per-Lux and repair parts disappeared for them pretty fast.

Again I like the breakerless kit. I suggest to anyone who does it - keep either a spare kit around or at least the old breaker plate with
points and condenser.

Pertronix is not a high energy electronic conversion. Just a kit to eliminate points. You do NOT require resistor wires or plugs as some
claim. It all depends on which version of Pertronix. There are three different models and each has its own install requirements. Standard
Ignitor, Ignitor II and Ignitor III.

I held out a long time before I went over to the dark side and installed Pertronix on my four cylinder 4000. I have no regrets; the conversion was easy and 100 percent reversible. You can buy the kit from YT, although it's a bit cheaper on Amazon.
