Sighting on pond - moving dark circle

The last couple mornings we have seen a dark spot 2 or 3 feet in diameter floating across a pond located behind our property. Actually this morning there were two dark spots 6 - 8 feet apart. There may very well be some small movements within the dark spot. We do not own the pond. Our house sits up fairly high and overlooks the pond. The dark spot slowly moves eventually out of sight primarily due to tree blocking the view. Even if we were to go to our property line the dark spot would still be 100 feet away and we would have lost a great deal of elevation. Binoculars help some, but not enough. At night we hear many bull frogs. Could this be a mass of tadpoles? I know there is not only a wealth of tractor/farming knowledge here, but also knowledge about the great outdoors. Any ideas???? Thanks.

It has been on the news almost daily that great white sharks are appearing further and further north than they have been seen before.

Hi, when I was a kid we had a farm with an old natural drainage ditch meandering through the property. It had a lot of small catfish in it. We could see little cat fish in schools, the fish were about 1" long. The schools could be 2 ft in diameter and normally near the surface. So that would certainly be my guess. Ed Will Oliver BC

The splashing would make me say it's a mass of just-hatched, bull-heads. I came across a mass of them when I was a kid. It was near enough to the bank for me to put my hand in to see what it was. Even when that small, those critters have functioning spikes! I pulled my hand out real quick.

You are right. I and grand kids just caught 4 out of the mass and put in tank. They seem to come up together and gulp air this time of year. From 1 / 2 inch to 2 inch long
