JD pto Air Pump

I have had this pump in my collection for several years and decided to have a closer look at it today. It obviously needs a ridged support bracket that keeps it attached to the tractor and keeps it from coming off the pto shaft. I am guessing the small bolt at the end of the cylinder is for a brace. Was this pump specific to certain years/models of tractors?

Simply put a short piece of chain on the bolt....they work on all PTO's with that "rib" pattern.

What I remember of the one that dad had, it had a chain on bolt that was hooked around drawbar so that it stopped rotation and pulled slightly forward keeping back
internal flange against end of pto shaft. Electricity when I was 3, electric compressor soon after. Pump layed on bench in shed until farm sale when I was 14 or 15. I may
have seen it used once on wagon in corn field.

Might oil it up internally, its got leather piston
cup,if its set too long you might need to make
new leather cup. We had 1 when i was a kid but
never seen it after dad bought a spark plug pump

Chain to keep from turning. 1 1/8" shaft early A or B tractors or 1 3/8" shaft for late A or B or 1 3/4" shaft for a G only difference. Work not only with JD but IHC, AC, Oliver MM, Cockshutt, MH, Ford or Ferguson.

Ford had a simpler one. You just removed a spark plug and turned it in. The hose must have been five feet long.

My dad had one of those JD pto pumps when I was a kid and it was the only way to pump up a tire on the farm. Other than hand pump.
It worked fine on the Cockshutt 50 pto. A neighbour borrowed it and forgot to return it. I guess by then we already had an electric
powered air compressor. I've got one of the spark plug type too but have never tried it out.

Hope this helps.

We had one of those.

It was interesting to watch a tractor pump up its own tires.
