My cousin is a dyed-in-the-wool book worm and collector. He finds books in all sorts of places and he gave me one of his finds yesterday. Man, what a book, "John Deere's Company - A History of Deere & Company and its Times". Written by Wayne G Broehl, Jr. and published in 1984. This thing is HUGE and its 850 pages covers pretty much the whole story. I'd be curious as to whether anyone here has ever seen it or maybe even owns a copy? I see them for sale at reasonable prices on web searches at Amazon, etc.

I have had one for years, not bad reading, think I got it for Christmas soon after it came out.

I got it shortly after it came out during the mid-1980's. Excellent book but a tad dry in some respects. This book offers some perspective on the entire industry such as it was in days gone by. Emphasizes the impact of William Hewitt who was the spark plug to push Deere to the top of the industry during the 1960's.

I have read it all at least once, some of it several times. Yes some of it is dry but thats what history can be sometimes.
I think it should be required reading for many Deere corporate executives and dealer principals.

I have it and read it . Pretty neat book goes through a lot of detail about johns early years and gives prices of work like what he charged to shoe a horse or a team of oxen. All the failures he had before he finally got going

I got a copy and read it when it first came out. Some parts are boring but most of the book was very interesting. This is not a book for the person looking to read about Deere machinery. If you are interested in the Deere family and why they made certain company decisions then this is the book for you.

Thanks for the reminder, I have one of those. Yeah, pretty dry reading. If you are looking for info on design, factory production line operation, and the like, well, not much to read about. Good for a MBA student tho. Mine is needing a new home, if any one of you want it, make me an offer now!! as I will take it to the Auction at NY Expo next week.
