Bolens Garden Tractor

I've always liked the old Case garden tractors because they were built so rugged. I was looking at my brothers Bolens the other day, and it's no slouch either. It's basically a miniature version of a real tractor, right down to the three point hitch.

Is that air cooled or water cooled?

I worked for a Bolens dealer early 70s. I was always fascinated by how those tube-frame tractors were built. Especially the farm-type front and rear splined PTO shafts. Also a real clutch, not just a slipping belt. I still have two of the tractors here, quite a bit older then the one you are showing here. Rugged at they were built, they were never what I'd call "reliable." My 800 is 20 years older with a Wisconson S7D cast-iron engine. The newer ones in the early 80s - like the QT in your photo were available with hydraulic lift that is nice to have. Here is a 20 year older version that is listed in my Craigslist right now.

I was working at a GMC dealer i n 1974 that sold them too. There was a sals movie showing all of the dirt work for their new factory. All of the dirt prep and digging was done with their lawn tractors. There was backhoe and trenchers running.

My first garden tractor was a Bolens 650, then a 1050. I like the HT 20 and HT 23's but don't have room for any more toys.

I have an 11 hp. tractor with a hood like this one, but it says Troybilt on the hood and has a Garden Way serial number tag on it. It also seems to be a well built machine.
