ok so i want to put a new antenna up to cut the satellite tv i am about 60 miles from Evansville in and 60 miles from paducah ky 100 miles from Nashville so does any one have a suggestion i having a hard time finding any one who sale them local know i can get off amazon just trying to figer out witch one i still have a tower but ol antenna non function thanks

First go to this site, see what signal is available.

Then select the antenna you want.

If there is a good selection with good reception, putting the antenna in the attic will work. It will be protected from the weather there.

Or if a weak area, getting it up above trees and buildings will help. You'll wamt one built sturdy enough to withstand the sun and weather.

There is no miracle solution. If there is no signal, there is no signal. A very expensive antenna with empty promises is a waste of money.
TV Reception Area

Distance is a problem. TV signals, whether VHF or UHF are line of sight. The higher you can get the antenna, the better your reception will be. Has little to do with trees, wires, or other structures. Signals are more affected by the curvature of the earth than by trees and buildings. Also note that amplification will help with weak signals but not with line of sight issues.

By your description, you are in a poor area for OTA TV reception. It will be very difficult to get any reception unless there are some low power transmitters near by. As other have said the higher the better.
Most TV stations are operating on UHF which is a much higher frequency than VHF. UHF looses more signal level than VHF per given distance and is affected more by line of site and by vegetation than VHF.
You may not know you are receiving a UHF channel because your TV will display what ever channel the TV station tells your TV to display. For instance WTVW out of Evansville shows VHF Channel 7 on your
TV when it actually is broadcast on UHF Channel 22.

Below is a simple link. Just type in your address or zip code and you will get a color coded reception of the available TV stations.
NoCable

I got real lucky that all the TV stations are in the same direction NNW of me, and they are all about 30 miles away. I setup a amplified directional antenna high in the attic pointed toward the stations. I get all available channels, many of them I don't even want. Use those links posted in earlier posts, they will help you figure out what you need to do and might give you an idea of what kind antenna you need (long range, directional or non-directional)

The farthest Tv station antennae for me is about 30 miles...my wife bought the flat wall/window mounted antennae for under $20, i mounted it on the window, (seemed like a good spot), and i get like 30 channels.

NO, you wont get HBO, A&E, SciFy, Discovery, or ANY cable channels. You will get plenty to watch though.

Good luck

I'm 40 miles north of the Waco stations and 60 miles south of the Dallas stations. I put an old rabbit ear antenna in the
attic. I get all of the Dallas stations except one (Fox). and all of the Waco stations. My tv is a smart tv so I get a lot
of other stuff free on the internet. I also pay $40 a month for Directv Now. so I can watch the hot rod shows. Rick

There is at least one maybe more youtube channels that address ota reception, antennas, equipment and set up.

It can give you preferred antenna types perhaps even models
amplifiers
and discuss the fact that you may need multiple antennas pointed in different directions to get what you want

(quoted from post at 20:27:39 06/24/19) These work good for me. I am southeast of bowling green, and can
get 34 channels.

That is the same antenna I have. From Amazon. $36. I get all of the Omaha stations, 75 miles away. Also, my antenna is inside the house, setting on top of the china cabinet, pointed toward a picture window in the direction of Omaha.

I have been using a Reception Website to see what is available and what direction to point the antenna.
The link I have included works pretty well. I had cable about 25 years ago for a month or two. I don't believe in paying for something more
than once. You pay for cable or satellite monthly and then the advertisers pay them again. With over the air TV, the commercials are the
payment.

I also just bought a new Smart Samsung TV. With that, I get over the air signals, the internet channels that are installed on the TV, it has
Netflix and Pluto and more TV via the Internet.

Of course I bought more antennae than I needed so I am always willing to part with one or two.
Reception Map

60 miles is a long way especially if it is wooded around you. I live in a wooded area about 60 miles from Dallas and I have a terrible time getting reception. I have an antenna with the longest range available but the trees are a problem. Right now I'm in the process of trying to put up a tower to get the antenna at or above the tree top level.

I have one of those cheap little $20 digital receivers that you see on one of those TV offers,, it works great and it's just stuck on my window, since TV's went to a digital single reception has improved,, try one of those first.

Max reception will be with a Winegard HD8200U antenna and a good pre-amp mounted on the antenna mast. Usually good for 80 miles but much
depends on the terrain. A pre-amplifier mounted on the antenna mast is a must.

Before I bought my antenna, I visited a couple of those websites that show what is available in my area, and which antenna would be the best. According to those websites, an over-the-air antenna WILL NOT work where I live, unless it is a top of the line unit, mounted on a mast that is 80 feet high. But that little antenna from Amazon, setting on top of the china cabinet, inside the house, works just fine.

Have maybe $40 antenna which had built in rotator. works well as has remote for roater. very
good buy. Seems as walmart has them. Goofy looking thing, but works well.

If you are near Eddyville - look at this signal map. Strongest channels are on top and get weaker as you scroll down. ABC is the strongest
with a 14.3 NM strength. Usually when you get below negative 7, you cannot receive reliably with any antenna. That would be PBS who is 94
miles from Eddyville. Where I live in northern Michigan, I can get an analog channel from Canada that is 92 miles away - but not something I
care much to watch.

There isn't much to go wrong with an
antenna. Try putting on a new balun
before getting a new antenna. They are
also called a matching transformer. I
thought lightning took out all of my tv's
but it was the balun. Just a few bucks at
the home improvement stores.

And my antenna is made out of a board and
scrap wire.

I made a very similar antenna. Scrap 1x6 and some scrap copper wire. Could get only one channel, but it brought that channel in very well.

Use the longest ultra deep fringe channels 7-51 antenna . Use an antenna mounted amplifier with a FM trap. Use a rotator . Use RG-6 cable . Higher is always better with an antenna .

Hello Ben brown,

Here is what I got at A amazon, with rotor and remote. Claims 150
miles? Here is my last channel search-scan,

Guido.

Yep! Very similar to the number of channels I get on that same antenna.

I have a $10 dollar set of rabbit ear antenna on tv in bedroom, and roof antenna to tv in living room. I get more stations on the rabbit ear
antenna. About 30 stations, I don't watch tv much, I prefer not to be spoon fed my mind rot.....

I bought a new antenna. called dish and told them to stop my service. told them I just wanted local channels. they gave me a package for 7.49 a month that includes my local tv stations plus 30/40 other channels. went from 112 a month to 7.50 a month. using netflicks for 15 month. got all the tv I need now.

This unit won t perform as well as a deep fringe Yagi channel 7-51 antenna . However the women don t complain about it being butt ugly like a regular antenna with a boom and elements .
We bolted one of these on the side of the daughter s House in Sarnia positioned about 12" above the peak . When the cable was upgraded to RG-6. All but two channels from Detroit could be received plus the local channels .
iirc 8 channels and 23 stations .
