Just starting tear down of the JD 60 I brought home a couple of weekends back, just got the nose piece off and discovered the old gal has power steering, fixing to get hood and tank off to clean the tank out

Good score. Wish my 60 did. Single front, not easy to steer a low speed, but I'm pretty good with the brakes.

My uncle bought a 60 new in 1953 (?).

It had both PS and a proofmeter.

Last time I checked (many years ago) it was rusting away behind the barn in Tama County, Iowa.

Making progress, hood and tank connected together, called a neighbor over to help me lift it off, will get back to it in a few days, got some vinegar I?m going to put in tank in a few days and roll the tank around a few days and let the vinegar do it?s thing, got to get a pipe plug tomorrow to screw in where I removed sediment bowl before I start cleaning process.

I have to admit that Deere put a lot of effort into that power steering unit. Not a simple add on. Gets quite invasive when it needs repairs too.

Good find. Funny how those POS 2 cylinders had factory power steering available when tractors like my 450 Farmall and Case 500 made do with aftermarket setups.

I think you have to give credit where one feels credit is due. As for the rest of the tractor, well, too many things going sideways for me so no credit there.

Yaa, that is innovative and a pain in the drain at the same time. IH did that on their small v-8 engines, same pain, double trouble.

Have you had it running yet ? I'm guessing not from the dirty tank needing cleaned ?
I like to hook up an auxiliary tank and get them running at the stage your at to see what all may need attention while it is partially apart so you can get to most items now.

Hasn?t ran in years, towed it up on trailer to get it home and then dragged it under barn to work on , I probably need to take the carburetor apart and clean it up and put carb kit in it before trying to crank it, I put marvel mystery oil in the spark plug holes a week or so ago to soak until I?m ready to try cranking it. Just taking my time with the old gal. Got new distributor cap, rotor, points, condenser, coil, plug wires, plugs, also new oil filter, 8 qts of oil all ready to install, got to get a fan belt and some antifreeze and sediment bowl filter and gasket , maybe she?ll purr like a kitten in a few weeks, got my fingers crossed.

The Farmall installed Behlin PS on our old 450 gas was pretty good in my opinion, cultivated lots and lots of corn with IH #461 cultivator on it, turned on headlands one-handed with the steering spinner.
IH figured out how to feed four and even six cylinders evenly so no need for a carb for each cylinder.
Worst day of my life was spent on a JD 60 pulling a 6-30 rotary hoe breaking a crust on an 80 acre bean field. Was a l-o-n-g day. Listening to that danged think knock and bang and clatter is probably why my ears ring 24-7-365. The R diesel Dad had me do about half the spring fieldwork with in 1964 didn't help at all either.
