This is tractor related, haha, somewhat. Just finished watching one of my all time favorite Sci-Fi movies, The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951), in one scene when the alien Klaatu stops all flow of electrical current world wide for 30 minutes there is one scene of a worker trying to hand crank his Farmall Cub, he was mowing when it stopped. Great movie, the remake a few years back was not near as good of movie, the original 1951 movie is a classic. Klaatu Barada Nikto was the command given to Gort the robot by Mrs Benson (Patricia Neal) as instructed by the alien (Michael Rennie) should something happen to him to keep Gort from destroying Earth

Its a classic alright. I like it for the old cars and trucks.

Thats what he gets for ordering the optional Delco Remy distributor ignition system! If he woulda stuck with the standard J4 magneto it wouldnt have missed a lick.
Instead of fitting a distributor, he shoulda spent the extra money on getting the hydraulic lift set up...

But he is running a gang mower. That is a great movie. trolley cars are still in DC. Maybe it would have been a good thing if Gort had finished the job. Governments are way out of control.

Several years ago there was an episode of Two and a Half Men where a sleepwalking Alan says that to Charlie with a grin and a wink. Thanks for helping me understand what the heck he was saying.

Great movie, Greyrider.

Another of the very best is Forbidden Planet. 1953, IIRC.

I agree that the recent remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still is no match for the original.

If I recall correctly, don't the showings of that movie leave out one part, wasn't there a scene where a little boy is running an electric train (which stops when the power went out)?

Then, he spots an outlet on a suitcase that the visitor had left there, he plugs the train in and it starts running again?

Am I remembering something that was not there, or, was that part in the version you just watched?

That is not in the movie, it does show little boy pulling his train out from under the bed and playing with it early in the movie. And I?ve watched the movie probably 15-20 times in the last 50 years, the scene you described has never been in the movie. It?s really cool how the alien ?Klaatu? stops all electrical components on Earth for 30 minutes just to get his point across, he didn?t stop planes in flight or cut the Hospitals off, no earth person was harmed during the 30 minute outage.
