Since my old tractor tire changer retired out the business,I've been looking for a new tire guy.Went over yesterday to a fellow I heard about. He's a real nice young Mennonite
fellow that has a tire shop on his farm.Took a tire and rim off a 1550 Oliver,15.5 X 38 he had the slickest machine rotates the wheel as it breaks down the bead then uses a tool to take the tire off the rim, took about 3 minutes. He then cleaned the rim up,painted the rim with quick drying paint, put in a new tube and got it all mounted up.Did
a great job no beating the rim up,fighting tire irons etc.Charged me $93 total for the work and the new tube I was pleased plus I have a go to tire guy again.

I met a mennonite fellow last week.I gave him a ride home to his farm so he didnt have to drive back with his tractor. .Real nice hard working young fellow.

I wish I could find someone. All the tire people in my town are complete idiots. One of them ground a big hole in a tire roughing up the rubber for a patch. Another one couldn't be bothered to let the rubber cement dry and stuck the patch too soon and then had to use a plug to repair the leak. There is another one that will never pay any attention how the tire comes off or how it goes back on so the tire needs balancing after the job was done. Then there was walmart I took in a tire I had recently painted the rim and they put a UPC sticker on the rim which stuck like it was put on with epoxy. Ended up gouging the paint all up getting the sticker off.

I once had a Super C. When I brought it the rims where all dinged up. I could not imagine how that could happen, then I saw a guy with a sledge trying to break a bead.
Sounds like you found a keeper.

I don't even have a clue who would do a tire in my area which has pretty much turned into subdivisions and golf courses. I have always just did my own which hasn't gotten any easier as I get older. Local shops wouldn't know what to do with a tractor tire. I have had 3 grain elevators in my area close up in the last year. Closes elevator I know of where I can get seed, fert.and feed supplements is about 40 miles away now. On the plus side I have about 7 kubota dealers within 40 miles but don't know of one that would fix a tire.

Wait. New tube AND mounted for $93??? Did he mess up on the bill? I thought the tube alone would be 93. That's great! Make sure you spread the word. Its nice when things work out.

We have a good tire place 20 miles away, and coincidentally I am heading there this morning with 4 tires. 3 implement tires, one needs a new tube, one has worn down to the cords, but still holding air. The other implement tire just rotted and came apart. Then there is one of those miserable little feed cart tires, they are the worst. This tire shop has a two trucks on the road, they do on site heavy truck tire repair as well as on farm tractor tire repair. And they do a super job. I never have to take a tire off of a tractor, they remove the tire from the rim, with the rim still mounted on the tractor.

Glad it worked out well. I had the opposite experience from Big O. They beat the help out of my rims, scratched up the paint on both, pinch one tube so they had to do it over, and charged me premium price. A good tire guy is a treasure.

Where are you? I'm also looking for a good tire man. The place I was using burnt down in January. There are some Amish/Mennonite in this area. DOUG

For most of our OTR tire work, I use GCR in Flint. I have known the sales rep. for years. He's from Byron. The last time I was in Jerry's on Hill Rd., the staff did not seem very professional. Ron

I'm getting a new 11.2 x 24 ag tread tire for my old NH self-propelled baler.
Tire is $173, Tube is $36, Mounting is $39.
I'm way too old to bust tires anymore!!!!
BTW, I'm near Bllgs Mt

It?s good to find some support folk to work with.

Dad and I had our tire work done by the same coop for 6-7 decades.

Stopped by last September for a tire, they say oh we quit doing that in august.

Wow, eye opener when you lose something you really never considered a chain be.

Doug,Monroe City next to JC new parts store .Too far from you, but Johnnies in Ewing.

Our only tire guy up this way finally called it quits after his body gave out. If there was a young guy that would invest a little in the right tools and charged a fair price he could make a decent, if dirty, living. Right now the one remaining local shop wants you to bring the tire to them for service.
