Hi, I recently purchased an 8N, I don?t know the exact model year as the serial # is missing.

My tractor has 6.00 x 16 front wheels with 8 lug
bolts and 7/8? nuts, I don?t know why?
All the research I?ve done only indicates 6 lug front wheels with 1/2? nuts.

Does anybody know why?

Thanks

Short answer is, because the tractor is 70 years old and anything could have been changed on it in that amount of time for just about any reason you can imagine.

You would not believe some of the crazy farmer modifications that have been done to tractors over the years. Putting 8-bolt hubs on an 8N is actually one of the tamer more sensible modifications.

It may be possible with a simple hub swap and the right wheel bearings, OR it may have been done by cutting the original spindles off and welding on heavier spindles for the 8-bolt hubs.

I figured it was something like that, but then thought
maybe there was a better explanation...ha

Thanks so much for your reply!

I saw a 9n once that not only had the Ford car 16" wheels on it, but it also had the car hub caps on it as well.

I think someone posted a picture of a Ford with '39 Ford wheels on it once too. those are like the Volkswagen Bug wheels, with the bolts on the outer edge of the brake drum.

I guess if the 3/4 ton truck hubs and bearings would fit the 8n Ford spindles, they would work on there too.
