Why are rear tires backward

On the A Jd that is traveling with camper behind , why is he running the rear tires reversed on Johnbuilt?

Not sure. Maybe because of the way they wear ? Maybe when the leading edge wears down he will reverse them to get more life out of the tires.

Believe it or not, some people think the pattern left on the ground is supposed to be pointing forward. Another reason I've purposely seen them on backwards is loader work.

I may be wrong, but seems like the "Old McDonald" story books showed a bar tread pattern pointing forward. The only way they can point forward is if the tire is on backwards.

Agree, the rear tires will not wear as fast mounted backwards( on pavement). Also the ride is somewhat smoother on hard surface.

I have never heard reversing the tires will cause less wear. I'm not saying that's wrong, but I'd have to see an experiment done to believe it completely.

After reading the replies below, a guy can solve every problem by mounting them on normally and using them that way in the field but when you drive to town or go on a tour, put it in reverse and drive backwards. The best of both worlds.

He gets more then double the mileage when running the tires backwards. They're radials and he's tested running both ways.

I?ve seen the outside duals mounted backwards on
a big Steiger.they claimed there was too much
traction while pulling a dirt scraper but still wanted
flotation.didnt make a whole lot of sense to me
considering the no bottom blackjack ground they
were working in.
