billy shaver i have an old onan that came from exon from the 50's.i called the north tx tractor club and they gave me your name and this site in hopes to get some info

Be glad to help. Need to know model and serial number. Or some idea of what you have. Onan did use engine from other suppliers on some units. Pictures would help also.

Sorry had to go run some cows in.

Most common Onan of that time was the JC and DJC. Sold by the thousands. If I remember correctly from 1956 until 2010. Very good unit.Parts can be easy to find. We have manuals on Smokstak that you can down load for free.

From that it was made in April 1962 two cylinder 5 KW CCK. 120 volts only. Cast iron block. One of Onan's best. One of the few
everyone that knows is looking for. What problems are you having with it.

Not sure yet exactly what Genset you have, but having owned RV's for 49 years with a ton of different Onan Gensets, my all time favorites were the older two cylinder 1800 RPM units. Unlike the new single cylinder screaming noisy (Microquiet series YEAH RIGHT) 3600 RPM units, they were so smooth and quiet...??

What wouold be the most common remedy for Sticking Floats in the 2 cyl Onan..??

Had it apart many times, got a replacement float and 2 wks later, same problem..either NO gas or Flooding like mad...

i havent tryed to start it yet.i just pulled it out from out under some trees and thought it was smarter to ask about it before i did.

Look at the pin and carb body. Were the float rides. Make sure it has no burrs where the float rides. Check for anything that might get in the way.

Just take your time with it. Turn it by hand and do the normal checks. Oil,plugs, air filter, control wiring. You have a unit that many are looking for.

THANK YOU for your reply..!!

This has been going on for 5 yrs and I WILL loook it over well again...
I have figured the foam fload had swelled some or something...from what I have heard that happens..
Tried another Good float, same thing after a week or so..

I have another Briggs and Stratton Carb to try on it...mounts the same...

Worth the try..??

Thank you again..!!//

I have a JC 2Cyl.120V gen set.
Haven't ran it in Years(many) but at least it inside.
Was a Tough old set.
Never failed.

Have same engine with electric start on a old Chemetron ARC "The Bug"
W200? Welder

Very dependable.
Still use it often enough to keep it dependable.

There definitely worth getting running, and saving when you
Come across one.

Sounds like the 2 cylinder is a good engine!!

My 4 cylinder is air cooled and smokes some at times .. sometimes a lot .. I think someone over filled it .. and it had REALLY old gas in it .. several yrs old ..

I am going to drain the old gas out .. and give an oil change .
It has a magneto but seems to run great .. The electric start works good once the battery was charged ..

Just was wondering if there is anything else I should look for in getting to run well .. especially when I first start it up .. it SINGS .. I mean runs awesome .. so I think in the summer heat we are having I will put straight 30 sae in it .

thanks much

Gary
