tractor theft

on the news last night:
MONROE (WKOW) ? Thieves stole 1970 farm tractor earlier this month and the Green County Sheriff?s Office is looking for information to help recover it.

Sometime between Saturday, June 8 and the early morning hours of June 13, 2019, thieves entered a shed in Clarno Township that contained a 1970 John Deere 4320
tractor, along with other farming equipment, according to sheriff?s office news release.

A hay rake had to first be disconnected from the tractor, which would have taken some time, according to the sheriff?s office.

The tractor has a roll bar, bald front tires, a new seat and is missing a silver metal piece that holds the John Deere logo on the side of the tractor.

Old tractor theft is pretty much a misdemeanor EXCEPT for stealing the sacred green and yellow versions. Capital punishment for those found guilty !!!

My son's neighbor had a 4 wheeler that was locked up in a shed stolen sometime between 5:30 an d 8 pm when they were at a ball game. Interesting thing is the next evening while they were again at a ball game somebody broke in again and took a bunch of tools. This time they parked a car that was stolen in-between the trees by their property. The day the 4 wheeler was stolen, my son had seen a big dude that was quite recognizable hauling tail with a 4 wheeler but thought nothing of it other than it was unusual to see someone on that road with one. Turns out that the owner of the 4 wheeler worked with a guy that matched that description. He had been recently fired for stealing tools from work. The neighbor had had this guy over and gave him a bunch of firewood a couple of days before the break-in. Cops said they would look into it.

Finding an equipment auction that was held within the last 2 to 7 days to take it to would realy narrow down the chances for that. Would not be that many auctions in that time frame.

Years ago there was a run of tractor thefts around here. The perps were caught trying to sell a rather nice compact tractor to the local tractor wreaking yard. The folks at the wreaking yard got suspicious and called the sheriff. Turned out the thieves were stealing tractors from Washington and dragging them down to Oregon to sell them. On the return trip they would steal a tractor from Oregon and haul it North to sell it up there. How long this went on, I don't know. Never under estimate a thief

I can put up with a lot, but don't take my stuff. I wonder how many of us can come up with their tractors serial numbers if their tractor went missing. I can't. Stan

I think most auctioneers Take a lot of precaution when selling tractors. suspect inside job . hope they get caught. hate thieves.

Don't know about that but the guy worked with the neighbor so he was probably aware of his habits. Don't know why people post that information for the world to see anyway.

My late Neighbour was plagued with thefts....

He noted the color of the vehicle and the number of occupants that returned each month ...new Moon..

He also noted they always stopped 1/8 of a mile at a North bound secondary highway....(to through out the beer cans)

Armed with an appropriate Fire Arm....two bullets into the engine compartment....

Called the police...police located the vehicle stranded.....

Neighbour hired a lawyer...

Sentenced to one year fire arms restriction....

Community had a benefit dance.....

Neighbour was Dammed lucky he never killed some one!!!!

But at 90 + years of age...

I've been very lucky. I keep everything of value inside under lock and key. So not only will the criminals be charged with stealing, they will be charged with breaking and entering.

He would only have had from 1 day to max of 6 days to do that so very unlikely and then at consignment they have the consigners information on file as well as buyers name so should be easy to trace. Thinking some not so onest farmer decided he needed a new tractor and rather than pay for it went that way.

Another stupid thing folks do is to erect a sign of some sort in their yard indicating that one of their offspring carry # xyz on the local football/basketball/cheerleader......team.

Had a local guy who was well known as an avid HS foot ball team supporter. Got hit one Friday night while he was at the game. Thieves had a load of his stuff in their PU truck headed for a buyer when passing through a small town on the way, the muffler fell off and the local police stopped the truck for excessive noise. Upon finding the loot in the box and seeing the guys name on several items detained them and as it turned out, charged the thieves.
