That is a John Deere 600 Hi-cycle sprayer. They started building them in 1962. IRC they went into the early 1970s when the 6000 series came out.

One thing that intrigues me is that Deere was using engines with more then two cylinders in the mid to late fifties. In other ag applications, Yet the New Generation came as complete surprise to the industry. Surely someone had to get curious?? I have heard one story of questionable accuracy that Deere started locking the cargo doors of trucks carrying new generation parts after a near miss when a truck broke down. But still all these "weird" parts being made. Of course many got blamed on the 8010. Idk. Just rambling I guess...

I have heard that when one of the chains break in the drop boxes to the rear wheels hold on, there is no stopping it.

I hauled one of those things from south GA to upstate Sc for a fellow when I was about 18.
Had it on a flatbed truck coming up the interstate.
We were 14 1/2 feet high and the Ga interstate did not have the bridges marked for load height.
Had to almost stop at a bunch of them and let my friend hang out the window and see if we were going to fit.
Had to get off and drive on the median for a few.
Scary trip.

Had a 600 when we had 20 in rows. Rough riding short wheel base tippy POS. Sprayed in third gear-8 mph-about tipped it over more than once. Have a 6500 now-a lot better. The wife says she will try to find old pics of it---Tee
