With all the rain we've had in s.w.Pa I'm kind of hesitant to cut much hay. Tue morning i cut about 4 acres, tedded it late afternoon. Wed before noon raked it. A little after 1 PM, Left the shed with the tractor and square baler, drove half a mile to the field, baled 276 bales and parked the baler at 2:30. My helper and myself and the 8-ft bed pickup truck picked up, hauled and stored in the barn mow the 276 bales in exactly 2 hrs. It was a pleasant day, didn't hurry, nice breeze and didn't even get dehydrated. I'm 75 and soon to be 76 ! I'm thankful for my health and for my one good helper.

Thats pretty Dang good my friend . For you being 75 and having a helper I would call it a good day. Good Job
Thats more than any teenager nodays can do in 2 or 3 days

Job well done. You're right. the secret is to pace yourself.. Tell me again why everybody doesn't pull a flat rack behind the baler? Here in Southern Mn. nobody, and I mean nobody drops bales on the ground only to pick them up again. Let the baler do the lifting.

I mowed an acre taking a big gamble and lost. Mowed on Saturday, rained all Monday morning. Was starting to dry out Tues. evening, but then rained Wed. afternoon while I was at work. It's so thick that it was going to take a long time to dry, but I got to test out the used mower I'd bought. Don't know if I can get it dry enough to bale, even though I know it's worthless for hay now. Hopefully I can find a construction company that needs bales for erosion control and I can get a buck or two out of them. I bought an old baler I need to try out, and it's still looking sketchy into July...

Baling onto a trailer only works if you have cheap help and multiple trailers. I don't know of anyone who does it here in Pacific northwest.

One day years ago my dad and I had a lot of hay cut and raked. We had 2 hay racks that held a total of about 180 bales. We baled, hauled and stacked a little over a 1000 bales that day and I had time and enough energy to go play softball that night. O to be that young again.

We have 7 decent wagons good for about 200 bales each. My wife (my cheap help) and I have filled all 7 wagons by ourselves, but it does go easier if there are 2 people on wagon. We have enough space under roof to get all 7 wagons inside. We find it to be about the most efficient for us. I just wish we could get at it! Been so wet here in Ontario ( about 100 miles north east of Toronto) That no one has done any dry hay. On a normal year we tried to get first cut all done by first week in July. This year will be lucky to get started by then!
