30W motor oil?

Motor oil used to be so simple. I have several 40-50 year old small engines that are still running great and have never used anything but 30W dead dinosaurs. Now there are all kinds of synthetic, semi synthetic, high mileage, etc oils available but I'm having trouble finding plain old 30W. And don't get me started on the prices -- stores seem to think $4 a quart is a bargin! I've been using Walmart's Super Tech conventional oil (about $2.60 a quart) for several years now but last time I looked I couldn't find 30W.

What am I supposed to use in a 50 year 5 HP briggs when I can't find 30W???

If you can't find it in the store order it online
just get a couple jugs of it and shipping is free right to your door in like a day or two.

Go back by the lawn mowers at Walmart they have brigs strattin 30 wt. oil in Qts. But about 4.00

I can get straight 30W at my local Tractor Supply, Walmart, NAPA, etc. Never been an issue. Shell Rotella T1 is usually the best buy.

Briggs & Stratton also sells in under their own brand name with extra ZDDP in it, but it is kind of pricey.

Some times it's easier to shop online than to drive from store to store. Most larger retailers will show the quantity of an item available at your local store.

Our NAPA store in Chandler, AZ Sells it by the Quart . I imagine most do, but would have to check in your area .

Use 10W30 ...... you won't go to jail and your engine will be fine.

Your engines would be fine with modern oil. Some hydraulic systems were designed for the 30w non detergent instead of any sort of hydraulic type oil. There might be a problem with the foaming in that application.

I have a 75 jeep. When it was new 30w oil was recommended so I started off using straight 30w oil. For quite a while I was plagued with oil pressure problems. Then one day I went to change the oil and my supplier was out of 30w oil so I used 5w-30 oil in it and the oil pressure problems went away.

Your local Shell dealer sells SF-2 rated straight weight 10,20,30,40 and 50 weight oil by the quart, gallon, pail and barrel.
Amsoil does sell small engine four stroke oil that is loaded with zinc to lubricate camshafts and cam followers .

I hate to go all bat S*** crazy but I HATE WALMART'S WEB SITE! I searched for "Super Tech Heavy Duty SAE 30 Motor Oil, 2 Gallons" and I got 50 PAGES of results! No straight 30 weight on on the first page. The first result was 15-40 5 quart jug even. The results included paper plates and linear actuators for sunroofs! It seems impossible to find anything by searching their site. And when I've ordered several items making at total over $35 for free shipping it'll be shipped in 2 boxes by two different carriers and then both times I've done this one item -- like double sided tape -- I'm told I'll have to pick up at the store!

But they have good prices. It's a love - HATE relationship.
